The anticipated salary range for this role is between $80,000.00 and $131,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
Manage a variety of compliance delivery areas across business advisory, surveillance, investigations, training and control design. Advise business leadership on compliance matters, including new products and strategy, employee misconduct and regulatory interpretation. Engage with regulators to understand business requirements and incorporate findings into internal compliance strategy.
Role Objectives: Delivery
Support a variety of compliance delivery areas across business advisory, surveillance, investigations, training and control design. Field inbound queries from business stakeholders and resolve routine matters where possible. Escalate complex asks to relevant team members for further review and resolution. Track business KPIs against internal controls to identify problem areas. Produce high quality summaries for compliance management to highlight particular areas of concern for further investigations. Facilitate compliance training and communications by handling all logistical requirements and partnering with stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery.
Role Objectives: Interpersonal
Identify and maintain relationships with colleagues in adjacent control functions, including legal, HR, risk management and audit, to drive improved coordination in handling regulatory requirements of covered business unit. Seek out opportunities to raise profile with business stakeholders by providing timely, high quality support on routine compliance matters and escalations. Attend industry roundtables and other forums to make connections and broaden network with counterparts at other firms as well as regulatory bodies. Align with counterparts in other regions or business verticals to share best practices and identify emerging themes.
Role Objectives: Expertise
Demonstrate an awareness of the regulatory landscape by providing timely and value-added support to senior compliance personnel and acting as first line of defense for routine business queries and escalations. Seek out formal and informal learning opportunities to deepen understanding of regulatory frameworks and interpretations. Apply subject matter expertise to the production of high quality impact analyses and regulatory due diligence efforts on new and current business activity. Monitor briefings and other communications from key regulators on a continuous basis to stay abreast of regulatory developments. Leverage network of internal colleagues in legal and compliance to stay current on consensus interpretations of regulatory mandates.

SMBC’s employees participate in a Hybrid workforce model that provides employees with an opportunity to work from home, as well as, from an SMBC office.
