    POSITION TITLE: Learning Center Supervisor

     

    REPORTS TO: Building Principal

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    + A Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred

    + Current Iowa Certificate with appropriate endorsement required

    + Successful teaching experience preferred

    Knowledge/Skills

    + Able to communicate information and ideas both verbally and in writing

    + Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills

    + Knowledge of curriculum design tailored to alternative education

    + Able to prioritize, organize, and accomplish assigned work

    + Such alternative to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction in line with the Iowa Core and district curriculum to meet the educational and behavioral needs of students in grades 6-12 who require alternative placements.

    + Contribute to selecting materials and supplies while implementing designated curriculum, instruction, and interventions tailored to individual student needs and learning styles.

    + Employ a variety of instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives.

    + Provide effective, developmentally appropriate, and differentiated instruction for diverse learners.

    + Establish and maintain a positive and supportive learning environment conducive to student success.

    + Promote student engagement to inspire and encourage progress while supporting and strengthening the learning capabilities, and promote positive social-emotional development.

    + Supervise students’ work, evaluate and grade student performance, assignments, and progress.

    + Follow professional practices consistent with school policies when working with students, students’ records, parents, and/or colleges.

    + Maintain a professional demeanor when dealing with parents and students.

    + Assist administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.

    + Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

    + Strive to maintain and improve professional competence; stay abreast of developments in the field.

    + Attend staff meetings and professional development, and serve on committees as required or requested.

    + Maintain accurate, complete, and appropriate records and files.

    + Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

    + Assists in identifying student needs and cooperates with other professional staff and parents in assessing and helping students solve learning, behavioral, and health problems.

    + Provide adequate information, plans, and materials for substitute teachers.

    + Have regular and reliable attendance.

    + Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and support staff to ensure continuity of services and alignment with district goals.

    + Provide online instructional support to at-risk high school students in various subjects required for high school credit recovery.

    + Utilize online learning platforms and alternative instructional strategies to engage students and support varied learning styles.

    + Implement behavior management strategies and restorative practices tailored to individual student needs.

    + Participate in IEP/504 meetings and provide accommodations and modifications as needed.

    + Foster students’ sense of belonging, purpose, and motivation to complete high school.

    + Uphold confidentiality, district policies, and professional expectations in all interactions.

    + Support transitions between the Clarke Learning Center and the traditional school setting.

    + Supervise In School Suspension students and their learning directives.

    + Other duties as may be assigned to meet the needs of the district.

    + Maintain emotional control under stress

    + Capable of standing for long periods while instructing

    + Able to work with interruptions during a work shift

    + Tobacco and substance-free environment

    + Must provide certification of good health before employment

     

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be determined in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement between CCEA and CCSD.

     

    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement between CCEA and CCSD.
