    Job Summary:

    An Educational Audiologist collaborates with educators, students, families, and other professionals to assess and manage hearing-related issues in school-aged children. They provide direct services, recommend accommodations, and support the implementation of hearing assistive technology (HAT) to promote optimal learning experiences.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Hearing Assessments:Conduct comprehensive audiological evaluations to identify hearing loss, auditory processing disorders, and other hearing-related issues.

    + Amplification & Technology Support:

    + Fit and manage hearing aids, cochlear implants, and FM/DM systems in educational settings.

    + Provide training and support for students and staff on hearing assistive technology (HAT).

    + Collaboration & Advocacy:

    + Work closely with teachers, special educators, speech-language pathologists, and parents to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and 504 plans.

    + Advocate for necessary accommodations and modifications in the classroom.

    + Classroom Acoustics & Accessibility:

    + Assess classroom environments to recommend improvements in acoustics and noise reduction.

    + Ensure compliance with accessibility laws and educational policies.

    + Student Support & Counseling:

    + Educate students on self-advocacy skills and effective communication strategies.

    + Provide counseling regarding the psychosocial impact of hearing loss.

    + Professional Development & Training:

    + Offer training sessions for school staff on hearing loss, assistive technology, and inclusive teaching strategies.

    + Educate peers and parents on best practices for supporting students with hearing challenges.

    + Compliance & Documentation:

    + Maintain accurate records of assessments, interventions, and student progress.

    + Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations regarding hearing-impaired students' rights and accommodations.

    Skills & Competencies:

    + Strong knowledge of hearing disorders, assistive technology, and classroom acoustics.

    + Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

    + Ability to assess and modify classroom environments for optimal auditory access.

    + Experience with IEPs, 504 plans, and special education processes.

    + Training and counseling abilities for students, educators, and families.

    Work Environment:

    + Schools (public or private), special education programs, and early intervention services.

    + May require travel between multiple school sites.

    Qualifications:

    + Doctorate in Audiology (Au.D.) or Master’s degree in Audiology (where applicable).

    + State licensure or certification as an audiologist.

    + Certification from theAmerican Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)orAmerican Board of Audiology (ABA)preferred.

    + Experience in pediatric or educational audiology is highly desirable.
