    Job Title Part-Time Library/Bookstore Assistant - Keokuk Campus - Level 6

    Job Description

    The Library/Bookstore Assistant will provide support for the daily operation and services of the Keokuk Campus Library/Bookstore. Duties include but are not limited to data input, records management, assisting students and staff with library resources, and selling textbooks and supplies. Strong customer service skills, attention to detail, adherence to specific college and government rules and regulations, and computer application proficiency are required. This is a part-time position with a starting hourly wage of $15.00. This position will work 9 months out of the year from mid-August to mid-May 9:30 am – 2:30 pm. Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, $50,000 life insurance, long-term disability, paid sick leave, paid vacation, paid holiday and spring breaks and participation in IPERS or TIAA retirement plan.

     

    Terms of employment are per bargaining agreement between SCC Board of Trustees and the SCCESA , employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees. Upholds college policies and procedures and supports and participates in college-wide initiatives. Actively promotes a positive image for the college district. Supports SCC’s mission, vision, values and goals.

     

    Essential Duties Summary

    Responsibilities

    + Learn and embrace the comprehensive community college philosophy and related Iowa Code regulations.

    + Learn and apply all policies/procedures set by SCC , the library, and the bookstore

    + .Perform opening and closing library/bookstore duties as determined by work schedule.

    + Help maintain a clean, neat, and organized library/bookstore.

    + Answer phone calls, direct calls, and make calls associated with library/bookstore duties.

    + Answer questions from students and staff about library/bookstore services and about the college in general.

    Library specific:

    + Take photos for student IDs/library cards.

    + Enter patron registration information in Polaris and file the registration cards.

    + Check library materials in and out. Perform other circulation duties as needed.

    + Help patrons find, access, and use library resources in various formats.

    + Shelve library materials according to specified organizational schemes (e.g., the Dewey Decimal System).

    + Photocopy and scan materials as needed.

    + Maintain statistics as directed by the librarian.

    + Collect money for the library (e.g., fines/fees) and other SCC purposes (e.g., field trip fees) as directed.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Bookstore specific:

    + Assist customers with sales of textbooks and supplies.

    + Take inventory of textbooks and supplies as directed·

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    Education:

    + High school diploma or equivalent required.

    Experience:

    + Library experience or office experience is preferred.

    + Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including telephone/social media etiquette appropriate for a professional workplace.

    + Knowledge of computer software applications, specifically Microsoft Office programs preferred.

    + Ability to learn the library’s integrated library system (Polaris), and the bookstore’s point-of-sale and buyback software systems.

    Ability to:

    + Learn and apply policies/procedures set by SCC , the library, and the bookstore.

    + Learn and develop competency in new software applications.

    + Learn and develop competency with library resources in a variety of formats.

    + Operate standard office equipment and cash register.

    + Manage filing systems.

    + Maintain strict confidentiality.

    + Maintain a professional, courteous, and positive demeanor when providing customer service.

    + Work independently and accomplish tasks despite frequent interruptions.

    + Work effectively, cooperatively, and cordially with people of diverse backgrounds.

    + Complete financial transactions as needed.

    + Lift up to 50 lbs.
