    We are looking to welcome a Principal Software Engineer to a group of innovative, energetic and diverse engineers who help create and enhance conversation storage, agent extensibility, security and LLM (large language model) grounding solutions for M365 Copilot Platform and Chat services. As a **Principal Software Engineer** focusing on the M365 Copilot Platform and Chat services, you will leverage your skills and experience to help build the platform that powers enterprise Microsoft’s Copilots. You will work on building and designing both backend platform capabilities as well as core Copilot scenarios aimed at delighting our customers. You will be responsible for building scalable, performant, and cutting-edge features. This involves defining the architecture, implementation plan, ensuring everything is tested and robust, and improving processes to contribute to our best practices.

    Responsibilities

    + Designs, develops, and implements software to deliver solutions across M365 Copilot Chat and M365 Copilot platform.

    + Partners with appropriate stakeholders from multiple services and organizations across M365 to determine user requirements for complex scenarios for rapidly evolving Copilot ecosystem.

    + Leverages deep subject-matter expertise of cross-product features with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to lead multiple product's project plans, release plans, and work items.

    + Holds accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers across products/solutions, working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions. As a DRI, reproduce, debug and fix customer-reported problems.

    + Provides technical leadership for the identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.

    + Leads by example and mentors others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across the company.

    + Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    + OR equivalent experience.

    + 4+ years experience in designing, building, and managing available and distributed large-scale services.

    + 4+ years experience with cloud services such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, GCP, or others.

    Other Requirements:

    Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

     

    + Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    + OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    + OR equivalent experience.

    + Experience with Artificial Intelligence.

     

    Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
