Security has never been more important at Microsoft and the Defender for Office (MDO) team operates at the forefront of our company’s investments to protect customers as they navigate an ever-changing security landscape. In the MDO team, we focus on detecting malicious activity (malware, phish, fraud and spam), responding rapidly and neutralizing the threat.
Our team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build the next generation of services that will serve as the foundation for MDO's future growth and success. This infrastructure will be used to analyze billions of mail per day to provide the protections that our customers depend on.
As a Senior engineer you will be comfortable working in an agile environment, collaborating with peer engineers in MDO, working closely with Product Management and our partners teams to build scalable, secure and compliant solutions which will meet their requirements.
Responsibilities
+ Design and implement services which will power the next generation of MDO functionality.
+ Support and modernize existing MDO functionality so it can scale with our product growth.
+ Adhere to great Safe Deployment Practices (pre-production testing, blast radius reduction, early detection of issues and rollback of changes).
+ Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical direction, reviewing code, and ensuring best practices are followed.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, security experts, and data scientists to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
+ Drive end-to-end project delivery, ensuring timely and high-quality results.
+ Work on cloud-native technologies and distributed systems to build a robust, resilient, and secure platform.
+ Continuously improve our codebase by leveraging new technologies, artificial intelligence and best practices in security, data governance, and cloud infrastructure.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 1+ years experience in large scale distributed systems, including relational data bases.
+ 2+ years experience running production systems including monitoring, incident response and root cause analysis.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
+ **Microsoft Cloud Background Check** : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
+ Previous experience with Sql Server, SQL Azure and/or CosmosDB
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
