Job Description:
The University of Florida College of Medicine – Gainesville invites internal applications for the position ofSenior Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education (GME), who will also serve as the Designated Institutional Official (DIO). This senior leadership role provides strategic direction and operational oversight of all ACGME-accredited residency and fellowship programs across UF Health, the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center, and affiliated clinical sites, supporting more than 1,000 trainees.
As the ACGME-recognized DIO, this individual holds institutional authority and accountability for ensuring compliance with ACGME Institutional, Common, and Program Requirements. The Senior Associate Dean will lead the GME enterprise by advancing program quality, supporting the professional development of faculty and trainees, ensuring regulatory compliance, and cultivating a positive learning environment that aligns with the academic mission of the College.
Key Responsibilities
Institutional Leadership & Accreditation
+ Serve as the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) for the UF College of Medicine.
+ Ensure full compliance with ACGME Institutional Requirements and lead institutional site visit preparations.
+ Chair the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) and Housestaff Quality and Patient Safety Committee (HQPSC).
+ Serve as a liaison between the College, ACGME, UF Health, the VA, and affiliated teaching hospitals.
+ Oversee all GME policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
Strategic Oversight of GME
+ Develop and execute a comprehensive institutional GME strategy aligned with the College’s mission and the needs of clinical partners.
+ Provide leadership for program growth and innovation, ensuring excellence in training quality, curriculum, and faculty development.
+ Represent the College at local, state, and national GME and academic medicine forums.
+ Conduct Annual Institutional Reviews and monitor individual program evaluations.
+ Collaborate with leadership to ensure ongoing accreditation and continuous quality improvement.
Learning Environment & Trainee Advocacy
+ Promote and ensure a professional, safe, and comprehensive learning environment across all clinical training sites.
+ Oversee trainee well-being initiatives, risk mitigation strategies, and compliance with duty hour standards.
+ Advocate for residents and fellows with hospital and institutional leadership.
+ Lead onboarding and orientation processes for new trainees.
+ Address professionalism, supervision, and concerns related to resident and fellow performance, including remediation and disciplinary processes in coordination with HR and Legal Affairs.
Operational & Financial Management
+ Direct the operations of the GME Office, including staff management, resource allocation, and infrastructure support.
+ Collaborate with finance teams, UF Health, and the VA to manage GME funding and cost allocation.
+ Oversee trainee contracts, institutional letters of agreement, and ensure compliance with employment policies and ACGME standards.
Faculty & Program Development
+ Mentor program directors and core faculty; support recruitment and development of faculty and staff involved in GME.
+ Evaluate and enhance educational methodologies and ensure alignment with accreditation standards.
+ Establish and communicate clear goals and expectations for all GME programs.

Expected Salary:
This position is 0.75 FTE with an administrative supplement, benchmarked at the 50th percentile of Senior Associate Deans for Academic Affairs/Medical Education within AAMC member medical schools.
Required Qualifications:

+ Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in GME (e.g., Program Director, Associate Program Director, Department or Division leadership).

+ Demonstrated experience in academic leadership, professionalism, and operations in a medical education setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Previous service on the GMEC or in a GME institutional leadership role.
+ Familiarity with UF Health and VA GME operations.
+ Experience managing complex trainee performance concerns.
+ Active engagement with national organizations such as ACGME and/or AAMC.
