    Position Summary

    We are seeking a **Bioprocess Innovation Engineer** to play a key role in launching and Leading our new Bioprocess Design Center — an innovative facility dedicated to demonstrating and training customers on our innovative single-use technologies, Upstream and Downstream solutions, cell culture media, cell lines, resin and analytical offerings. This role is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of product innovation, customer engagement, and technical training within a best-in-class biotech solutions provider.

    Key Responsibilities

    + **Startup Leadership:**

    + Support the setup, commissioning, and qualification of the Bioprocess Design Center.

    + Collaborate multi-functionally with engineering, validation, product management, and marketing teams to bring the center online.

    + Ensure the facility is equipped and configured to support demonstration workflows across upstream, downstream, and analytical platforms.

    + **Technical Demonstration & Training:**

    + Lead and support live and virtual demonstrations of Thermo Fisher’s single-use technologies, cell culture media, analytical assays, and POROS™ chromatography resins.

    + Work with internal Marketing teams to develop and deliver technical training content and hands-on sessions for customers, commercial teams, and internal partners.

    + Collaborate with Product Managers and Applications Scientists to ensure training content reflects the latest product capabilities and standard processes.

    + **Process Design & Support:**

    + Design and implement end-to-end bioprocess workflows (from seed train to final purification) using Thermo Fisher’s integrated bioproduction solutions.

    + Support solving and process optimization using in-depth knowledge of cell culture, bioreactors, chromatography systems, and analytics.

    + **Customer Engagement & Innovation:**

    + Work closely with customers to understand their technical challenges and propose tailored bioprocess solutions using Thermo Fisher’s portfolio.

    + Provide technical support during customer evaluations and pilot runs.

    + Collect and communicate customer feedback to advise future product and service development.

    + **Collaboration:**

    + Partner with Bioproduction R&D, Commercial, and Applications teams to align on customer experience, facility utilization, and product launch strategies.

    + Serve as an authority representing bioprocess engineering in cross-departmental projects and customer interactions.

    + Travel: Located in Lexington, MA; able to travel up to 10 % as required

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or related life science field.

    + 7+ years of hands-on experience in bioprocess development or manufacturing, with a strong background in both upstream and downstream processes.

    + Experience with single-use bioreactor systems, chromatography, and process analytical technologies.

    + Strong presentation and interpersonal skills; comfortable engaging with internal teams and external customers.

    + Shown ability to lead sophisticated technical projects and collaborate in a matrixed organization.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Experience with Thermo Fisher Scientific’s bioproduction technologies is highly desirable.

    + Experience in a customer-facing or technical training role.

    + Familiarity with GMP operations and bioprocess facility design considerations

    Post start up Roles and Responsibilities:

    Leads experience center and lab including oversite of lab personnel Manages and coordinates customer visits and training to the experience center Able to articulate and demonstrate the value proposition of the Thermo Fisher Bioprocessing workflow solutions to customers. Leads design of experimental plans based on the defined work.

     

    Conducts testing and development of SUT systems.

     

    Prepares protocols, reports, and test methods and writes SOPs.

     

    Maintains and ensures safe laboratory environment and work practices.

     

    Implements appropriately record and evaluate experimental data, including the writing and revising of process development reports and technology transfer protocols as required to support customers. Remains current in the field by review of relevant scientific literature and attendance at appropriate scientific seminars and conferences.

     

    Analytical: Leads complex analytical methods and tests on CHO lines, growth promotion. Participates in development of analytical methods.

     

    Cell Culture: Participates in design and development of SUT cell culture equipment / processes to support internal and external trainings - (including mAbs) under varying levels of direction, including, but not limited to cell culture scaleup, media development, harvest (recovery) process development, process range finding, and statistical analysis of data. Coordinates SUT bioreactor trainings for customers internal to BPG and our external customers.

     

    Purification: Participates in the understanding of the development of recombinant protein purification processes, including chromatography process, ultrafiltration / diafiltration, nanofiltration, process characterization and optimization, process scale up, scale down model qualification, viral clearance validation.
