    Job Description

    This position is being reposted. If you have previously applied, your application is still being considered.

     

    Assist the section supervisor in the administration and enforcement of the mechanical code and other related regulations. Provide direct supervision of state mechanical inspectors and plan reviewers in the inspection of buildings under state jurisdiction; develop and conduct inspector-training programs in compliance with 2016 PA 407; and participate in the development and promulgation of state codes and rules.

     

    This position will also conduct inspections, including those more complex inspections, complaint-based investigations, prepare related reports, and testify in administrative or judicial proceedings. In addition, the person assigned to this position will participate in performance evaluations of local enforcing agencies administering the code, participate in the rule promulgation process, train, instruct, assign work duties, provide direction, prioritize, and evaluate the work of other inspectors, provide code interpretations, develop and conduct training programs, assist in developing exam questions, and conduct plan reviews when needed.

    Two years of experience in an area of code inspection equivalent to the experienced (E11) level.

    Special Requirements, Licenses, and Certifications

    Certain positions will require possession of a certificate or license applicable to the specialized area of code inspection, such as:

    Possession of a certificate of competency as a general boiler inspector issued by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

     

    Possession of a journey or master electrician’s license issued by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs or a municipality with a state approved licensing program.

     

    Possession of a certificate of competency as a general elevator inspector issued by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

     

    Possession of a journey or master plumber’s license issued by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

     

    Upon appointment, individuals must meet the requirements of Act 54 of 1986 and become registered as follows: building inspector and plan reviewer; electrical inspector and plan reviewer; mechanical code inspector and plan reviewer; or plumbing inspector and plan reviewer.

     

    Certain positions may be assigned subclass codes and individuals appointed must possess the required specialized experience.

    Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
