    Rutland, Vermont based position- the IT Business Analyst acts as a critical connector, translating business requirements into technical solutions while ensuring that technology initiatives align with business goals, thus bridging the gap between the two domains.

     

    As a member of VELCO's Information Technology team, you will partner with various departments to translate business needs to enhance technology solutions, business performance, and efficiency. The position requires adaptability, creativity, teamwork, collaboration, organization, troubleshooting skills, and a strong commitment to customer service and relationship building.

     

    How you will make an impact

     

    The IT Business Analyst will help solve complex business problems, optimize business processes, and implement modern technology solutions. You'll build bridges, drive positive change and improve user experiences with technology solutions.

    Responsibilities

    + Analyze existing systems and business: processes, functions, and procedures to determine and document the current state.

    + Meet with stakeholders of impacted departments to elicit and document business and stakeholder requirements.

    + Determine and document gaps between current and desired future states.

    + Identify systems specifications and objectives then, based on identified requirements and cost effectiveness, submits to management meaningful options and recommends the most effective solution to meet the needs of the organization.

    + Based upon chosen options, work with stakeholders to determine, document, and maintain solution (functional and non-functional) and transition requirements.

    + Develops test plans and coordinates and performs software testing.

    + Coordinates implementation of system software and/or updates; including development of implementation and data conversion plans and working with application support personnel to resolve system implementation issues.

    + Act as liaison between systems software development staff, management, and system end-users to determine requirements and obtain sign-off.

    + Provide training and technical support to system end-users.

    + Participate on key initiatives within the company.

    Who you are

    A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related discipline and (or) equivalent relevant experience. 7 + years of experience designing, developing, implementing, and supporting business processes with technical solutions required.

    + Experience working projects through the full project life cycle, using waterfall and agile project execution approaches.

    + Experience eliciting requirements through user interviews, workshops, and analysis.

    + Experience documenting, prioritizing, tracing, and maintaining requirements.

    + Experience with ERP software is preferred (e.g., Workday, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics)

     

    Knowledge/Skills

     

    + Proficiency in business process mapping tools to identify inefficiencies and design process improvements.

    + Proficiency in project management software like Smartsheet, Jira, Asana, or MS Project to track project progress, dependencies, and timelines.

    + Ability to extract, analyze, and interpret data from databases using tools like SQL to identify trends and patterns.

    + Knowledge of the different phases of software development lifecycle (SDLC).

    + Understanding of IT infrastructure, cloud computing, and information security priciples.

    + Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

    + Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to serve as a liaison with functional users, IT, project managers, and customer support.

    + Patient and professional demeanor with can-do attitude.

    + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    + Expert with Microsoft Office Suite

    + Superior verbal and written communication skills.

    + Ability to interact effectively and professionally with a diverse group of employees throughout the organization.

    + Ability to plan and complete multiple, diverse tasks and meet challenging deadlines.

     

    Physical/Mental Demands

     

    Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to maintain fast pace while completing complex, analytical work, in potentially stressful situations, with competing priorities, within tight timelines and with frequent interruptions. Rotating, on-call coverage is required. Must be able to work additional hours when necessary. Periodic travel and overnight stays will be required when attending industry workshops, training, etc.

    Important Considerations

    • VELCO is headquartered in Rutland, Vermont.

    • This is a hybrid position and the expectation is that the incumbent will spend at least two days per week onsite and more as needed.

    • Must be able convey complex information in writing, verbally and by demonstration, perform typical administrative functions such as keyboarding, work additional hours when necessary.

    • Duties will require periodic overnight travel.

    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

    • Must be able to respond to off-duty calls, particularly in the event of system emergencies, prolonged equipment and/or customer outages.

    • Must maintain a valid driver's license.
