    Job Descriptions:

    SUMMARY

    Conducts developmentally appropriate screenings, evaluations, and assessments and creates educational plans for and provides therapy to students with developmental delays.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Screening, Evaluation, Assessment:

    + Conducts developmentally appropriate screenings in the area of hearing, annually and as needed;

    + Conducts screenings, evaluations, and assessments in the areas of speech, language, and swallowing/feeding, per student’s need(s);

    + Knowledge of formal and informal evaluation methods and materials;

    + Provides written reports summarizing results and recommendations;

    + Maintains accurate written records of therapy sessions, and provides documentation to third party payers, as appropriate.

    Planning, Implementing, and Monitoring Intervention:

    + Demonstrates knowledge of typical development in the areas of speech, language and feeding;

    + Creates present levels and written goals for Individual Education Plans (IEPs), working with classroom teachers and other therapy staff as necessary;

    + Creates, coordinates, and supplies appropriate materials to support IEP goals;

    + Chooses appropriate service model(s) which will assist students in meeting IEP goals;

    + Demonstrates knowledge of, and performs implementation of alternative communication and/or assistive technology to aid students in meeting IEP goals, as appropriate;

    + Provides written assessments of student progress per published nine-week schedule;

    + Educates Food Service and Classroom staff in regards to food modifications per swallow studies and/or physician orders.

    PROFESSIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Collaborates with school districts of each assigned student, as necessary. Self-reflects on services and makes appropriate adaptations as needed. Maintains accurate records to include IEP progress and ongoing developmental progress. Submits draft IEPs, progress reports and other required paperwork within required time frame as established by Early Childhood Director. Communicates with families effectively and on a regular basis. Follows preschool plan for home visits, parent conferences and meetings. Fully participates on teams to include staffings, IEP development, committees, etc. Collaborates with outside Speech Therapy Service Providers, as warranted. Refers students to community providers, as necessary. When working with students, manages behavior of students using prescribed Behavioral Plans, as appropriate. Provides staff members with education regarding communication, feeding, and other techniques so there is carryover of Therapy Strategies on a daily basis in the classroom. May be required to co-treat with other professionals, if in the best interest of the student. Maintains professional licensure in areas required by Board/licensure agency and others as required by administration and meets annual required professional development hours per ODE preschool regulations. Participates in required In-Services including but not limited to: Mandt, Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention, Communicable Diseases, CPR/First Aid, and others as required by Administration/ODE. Maintains confidentiality of student information.

    OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

    Required Experience:

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an Accredited College/University.

     

    Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.

     

    Valid State of Ohio professional licensure in Speech-Language Pathology, Ohio Department of Education registration in given occupation, along with required background checks.
