Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) is a fully managed container orchestration service that helps you easily deploy, manage, and scale containerized applications. The ECS team develops features that impact thousands of users and customers both internally and externally!
Amazon ECS is looking for a Software Development Engineer (SDE) to deliver our container orchestration service and accelerate adoption of containers in the cloud. This role includes responsibility for ECS and Fargate, our Serverless container compute offering. We are seeking an SDE with strong knowledge of distributed systems. You must enjoy working on complex software systems in a customer-centric environment and be passionate not only about building good software but also ensuring that the same software achieves its goals in operational reality.
A successful candidate will need a strong understanding of software development with Linux, and be comfortable analyzing large amounts of data from multiple sources within a distributed network.
- You will be responsible for translating business and functional requirements into concrete deliverables with the architecture, design, development, testing, and deployment of highly scalable distributed services.
- Obsess over your customers and deliver a first-class experience for them
- Take ownership of ambiguous problems and deliver solutions for them
- Work on the complete software development life cycle: definition to delivery
- Operate a public AWS service with globally distributed customers and servers
- Use data to make decisions and validate assumptions

Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
