    Job Description

    Marketing Statement:

    The Safety Department is implementing a Safety Management System (SMS) at WMATA. The Office of Safety Data Analytics is essential in the development and roll-out of SMS to guide important decisions, deliver real-time safety data, and manage our data systems. The Safety Data Analyst will work closely with departments across the organization to define and deliver metrics, datasets, and analytical insights.

    Key skillsets include:

    + The ability to understand, join, and analyze large datasets from platforms across WMATA to produce actionable information

    + Innovative thinking to identify new and more efficient ways of working utilizing data tools such as Python and Power BI

    + Support and maintain compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) record-keeping and National Transit Database (NTD) reporting requirements.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education

    + Bachelor¿s Degree in Safety, Safety Management, Transportation, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics or a related field

    Experience

    + A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience that includes data analysis, database management, delivering oral and written reports, and regulatory compliance

    Certification/Licensure

    + Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator¿s license

    Preferred

    + Master¿s Degree in Safety, Safety Management, Transportation, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics or a related field

    SUMMARY

    The Safety Data Analyst supports the Occupational Safety and Health division of Department of Safety and Environmental Management (SAFE) by identifying and analyzing leading and lagging indicators of organizational performance and safety culture, including, but not limited to accident and incident reports, supervisory safety observations, work orders, and key performance indicators. The incumbent maintains compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Recordkeeping and National Transit Database (NTD) reporting requirements. The Safety Data Analyst may be required to participate in emergency response or on-call rotations, to promote the Authority¿s transit-support goals.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Prepares analytics reports summarizing leading and lagging indicators of safety performance that support internal and external customers to inform the organization of incident trends and hazards across WMATA including Rail, Bus and Paratransit systems

    + Filters and cleans raw data by reviewing primary and secondary sources to correct errors in data entry and provide inputs for trend analysis

    + Assist Senior Analysts with trend analyses to identify leading drivers of accidents and injuries

    + Identifies business process improvements during the collecting, storing, and manipulation stages of data analysis, utilizing tools such as Python, Cognos, and PowerBI. Translates these process improvements into standard operating procedures and/or partners with IT to document requirements for system enhancements, to improve efficiency and accuracy of analysis conducted and communicate improvements to IT

    + Verification of education and experience (including certifications and licenses)

    + Criminal Background Check (a criminal conviction is not an automatic bar to employment)

    + Medical examination including a drug and alcohol screening (for safety sensitive positions)

    + Review of a current motor vehicle report
