    Purpose:

    Are you an innovative, forward-thinking leader seeking a high-level leadership opportunity? If so, the Director, Clinical Education and Curriculum Development position may be the perfect fit for you!

     

    Under the direction of the Sr. Director, Quality and Healthcare Education, this position will be responsible for the development and distribution of nursing education programs and curriculums across UPMC. This position functions as a hands-on leader to plan, implement, and evaluate the clinical educational programs offered by UPMC. The expectations for this position include collaboration with hospital-based education teams to develop content, plan, implement, facilitate, evaluate, and revise educational programming for all levels of nursing personnel. This role will also manage all aspects of clinical onboarding, engagement and transition to practice and be responsible for the systematic collection, analysis and synthesis of patient care data to forecast improvements in clinical practice.

    Responsibilities:

    + Develop, plan, implement, facilitate, evaluate, and revise educational programming for all levels of nursing personnel.

    + Organize, plan, educate, facilitate and monitor outcomes of educational programs, competencies, continuing education and nursing and clinical orientation

    + Research, develop, coordinate, implement, monitor and analyze various projects and initiatives for Clinical Education, Research, recruitment and retention for UPMC

    + Work collaboratively with human resources and clinical recruitment to lead onboarding initiatives, recruitment activities, and strategic initiatives for retention.

    + Design, develop, and operationalize programs in collaboration with schools of nursing and business units that support the rapid transition of highly qualified new graduates and experienced nurses into the practice setting

    + Act as an internal consultant, liaison, and interpreter of policies, programs, processes, and regulatory guidelines.

    + Coordinate, facilitate, and coach project teams preparing department staff performance management plans and provide feedback to other leaders as needed.

    + Develop clinical practice models based on the principles of evidenced based practice.

    + Provide direction to research issues or topics to provide a basis for forecasting and implementing changes in practice.

    + Collaborate with senior leadership and Chief Nurse Executive to resolve operational issues related to recruitment, retention, and shared governance.

    + Analyze clinical information, statistical data, evidenced based practice to formulate recommendations related to organizational development and operations.

    + Continually identifies areas of resource opportunity and harmonize duplicative efforts throughout UPMC clinical education.

    + Ensures standardization of centralized education including but limited to nurse and clinical onboarding and annual competencies.

    + Master's degree in nursing or related field.

    + DNP or doctorate in education strongly preferred.

    + 3 years of clinical experience and 2 years of experience in nursing education.

    + 3 years progressive leadership experience.

    + Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    + Understanding and management skills and ability exercise independent judgment.

    + Experience with project management, program evaluation activities, coaching and leading teams, and implementing programs.

    + Proficient in the use of software programs such as Microsoft Office.

    + Knowledge of ANCC Magnet Designation and Pathways of Excellence preferred

    + Experience in large scale project, education, or training implementation preferred **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**

    + Registered Nurse (RN)

    + Act 34

    *Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
