    JOB SUMMARY

    Manages the day-to-day operations of Salt Lake County Fleet. Provides oversight of five (5) shops to include truck shop, light duty, heavy-duty, weld, and landfill shop. Supervises management of the fuel program and parts warehouse. Acts-in and attends meetings for the Division Director when needed.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field, plus six (6) years of related experience in fleet management, managing programs and budgets, of which two (2) years must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience. Education may not be substituted for the required supervisory experience.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Assists in the overall leadership of the division by providing input in the areas of planning, staffing, program development, budgeting and total division operation.

    + Assists with the development of, and implementation of policies and procedures necessary to the effective management and operation of the Division.

    + Represents the Division Director in their absence and/or as by assignment, with authority to make decisions and commit resources on behalf of the agency.

    + Manages, directs, and coordinates activities through managers and supervisors, which includes hiring, firing, promoting, orienting, training, assigning and reviewing work performance, annual work performance appraisal and discipline.

    + Oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of the division. Serves as a primary resource for information regarding policies, procedures, objectives, and functions of operations; interprets regulations, policies, and procedures; resolves complaints, answers questions, provides information and makes decisions requiring specialized knowledge of practices and precedents.

    + Keeps the Division Director apprised of the organizational climate, identifies problems, either actual or anticipated and provides consultative assistance.

    + Directs managers and staff to best utilize Assists with and implements strategic initiatives and goals for the division.

    + Evaluates fleet preventative maintenance programs; recommends and implements improvements to the program as necessary to increase efficiency, and effectiveness.

    + Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

    + Prepares reports, analyzes data, and recommends modifications for improved efficiencies and utilization.

    + Develops and implements training programs keeping fleet employees current with the latest repair and maintenance technologies.

    + Measures customer satisfaction; develops and implements new and progressive means of delivering improved customer service.

    + Develops and implements safety programs to help employees develop safe habits and a safe environment.

    + Formulates associated maintenance strategies and policies.

    + Ensures compliance with Federal, State, and local hazardous materials and waste regulations and DEQ requirements.

    + Develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of Fleet Division goals.

    + Maintains necessary licensing for the Fuel program with the state of Utah, including "A" operator certificate.
