Job Summary:
The School of Health Sciences and Human Performance at Ithaca College is seeking dedicated and reliable individuals to serve as Simulated Patients (SPs) on a part-time basis to assist our educational programs training students for allied health and physician assistant studies professions. As an SP, you will play a crucial role in the training and evaluation of future healthcare professionals. You will be provided with case details and a supporting script to portray various patient scenarios, including signs and symptoms, during student encounters. As an SP, you will be expected to:
Job Responsibilities:
+ Complete training prior to serving as a SP, which will include learning comprehensive case details including patient age, name, family, social, and health history along with a script to follow during the encounters.
+ Participate in scheduled simulation sessions as determined by the program, portraying assigned patient scenarios accurately and consistently.
+ Wear a gown with only undergarments underneath, while on camera being recorded and/or observed live for educational and grading purposes.
+ Adhere to provided scripts, ensuring a realistic and educational experience for students.
+ Refrain from volunteering extraneous information during student interactions.
+ Refrain from requesting personal diagnoses for other health conditions.
+ Be comfortable undergoing repeated physical and neurological examinations by students.
+ Provide constructive, written feedback on student performance following each encounter.
+ Accept ongoing feedback from faculty supervising interactions.
+ Participate in a highly inclusive and professional environment.
Job Requirements:
+ Highly reliable and punctual for scheduled simulation sessions.
+ Strong reading skills to absorb and use the detailed case training and exam procedural information.
+ Ability to portray different patient scenarios per the provided script in an accurate and professional manner.
+ Comfort with repeated physical and neurological examinations.
+ Good written and verbal communication skills for providing feedback.
+ Be willing to be audio and videotaped during simulations.
Work Environment:
Work is part-time, intermittent, and scheduled on various days based on program needs. SPs will be expected to wear a gown or other garments provided by the program, however, are expected to wear their own comfortable undergarments (e.g., sports bra, shorts) during encounters. Specific details will be provided prior to each session. Locations may be on the downtown Ithaca Commons in our Physician Assistant Rothschild Building (parking is not provided) or on the South Hill Campus (visitor lot parking is available). Both sites are accessible by the TCAT bus system.
