    Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('SpinCo') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

     

    NBC News Digital is seeking a Senior Technology Reporter to focus on the industry’s leading companies, CEOs, products and their impact on society.

     

    This is a beat about power and influence, unearthing new information about how tech leaders and platforms are shaping people’s behavior, perceptions of reality, politics, policy and the economy.

     

    The reporter will have a wide remit, focusing on revelatory reporting and the storylines with the largest import and impact: Sam Altman’s decision-making at OpenAI. The impact of Mark Zuckerberg’s policy changes at Meta. Scoopy stories out of Elon Musk’s orbit, from Tesla to DOGE and beyond.

     

    This broad description will allow the person in this role to drive into a core area of expertise while also flexing into other major storylines of the day.

     

    The ideal candidate will have experience with deep source-building and enterprise reporting on one or several tech beats, with a history of scoops and exclusives. We are looking for someone who is excited to activate on major breaking news, adding context, analysis and fresh information.

     

    Success in this role means publishing revelatory, exclusive information; rich and deep enterprise reporting; and sharp and engaging analysis. Your journalism should be insightful and useful to our audience and distinct from the scores of other reporters on the tech beat today.

     

    The reporter has to be an impeccable and engaging writer who can capture the zeitgeist and be a thought leader in their space. Their source base must also be impeccable, with a broad range of well-placed and well-informed sources who will illustrate major storylines.

     

    This reporter will work closely with teams across Digital, with the NBC News business and economy unit and with the Washington DC Bureau. The reporter will be part of the NBC News Digital team, with an immediate focus on writing for NBCNews.com and leading a new, weekly newsletter. They’ll share their reporting with the broader network and then appear on air if requested.

     

    This position can be based full-time in San Francisco, Washington DC or New York and is designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of 3 days per week.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Publishing exclusive and revelatory information at a regular cadence

    + Desire to write about the industry’s leading companies, CEOs and products, with an ability to hit the zeitgeist

    + Focus on major storylines of national interest and deliver scoops and detailed well-written enterprise and analysis pieces.

    + Having a deep, robust, accurate and plugged-in source base

    + An ability to write with flair and voice, while not veering into opinion

    + At least 8 years reporting on the technology industry or a related beat

    + Impeccable journalistic standards and ethics and a high bar for sourcing

    + Ability to produce fresh information for a 1x weekly newsletter

    + Ability to jump between breaking news, exclusives and deeper takes

    + Comfortable discussing reporting on NBC platforms when needed

    Additional Requirements:

    + Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

     

    This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
