IBM's product and technology landscape includes Research, Software, and Infrastructure. Entering this domain positions you at the heart of IBM, where growth and innovation thrive.
Your role and responsibilities
A Research Scientist position is available in the Quantum Coherence Materials Group, based at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. The mission of this group is to understand limiters to coherence in superconducting qubits and to provide fundamental knowledge on how to mitigate loss mechanisms, making use of new learning in a timely manner. This job entails both a high degree of autonomy and the ability to work well with others in a research and development environment, with key deliverables and milestones planned throughout the year. in this role it is expected that you will present and/or publish selected work as well as file for patent protection where applicable. You are working towards producing improved superconducting quantum devices (gates). The work entails a mix of practical experiments and fundamental investigations to both improve upon IBM's existing hardware metrics and to gain insight/understanding of superconducting qubit performance limiters.
Required technical and professional expertise
* Candidates should possess a graduate degree in chemistry, physics, materials science, or a related engineering program, with experience in superconducting qubits.
* Prior research in (a) the testing of superconducting devices within dilution refrigerators, (b) experience in device fabrication and/or (c) chemical functionalization of surfaces is preferable.
Preferred technical and professional experience
* Candidates should possess a Ph.D in chemistry, physics, materials science, or a related engineering program, with experience in superconducting qubits.
