    Baruch College, a senior college of The City University of New York, seeks a seasoned and collaborative leader to serve as Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Human Resources. Reporting to the Vice President for Operations and Administration, the AVP serves as the College’s chief human resources officer and provides strategic leadership and oversight for all aspects of human resources management.

     

    Baruch’s Office of Human Resources supports more than 2,500 full- and part-time faculty and staff. The AVP will lead a team of professionals across talent acquisition, employee and labor relations, payroll, benefits administration, time and leave, classification and compensation, HRIS, professional development, and HR compliance. The AVP will ensure that HR policies and practices reflect Baruch’s values of excellence, innovation, and inclusion, while advancing a high-performing, equitable, and supportive workplace culture.

     

    This position plays a pivotal role in implementing Baruch’s Strategic Plan, particularly in the areas of “Strengthening Our Collaborative and Engaged Community” and “Optimizing Operations and Infrastructure.” The AVP is expected to enhance systems and staff capabilities that drive institutional excellence, employee satisfaction, and operational efficiency.

     

    In alignment with the Vice President’s goals, the AVP will champion cross-unit collaboration, implement streamlined and compliant business processes, and ensure transparency, accountability, and service excellence across all HR functions.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Lead and supervise the daily operations of the Office of Human Resources, ensuring high-quality service delivery and compliance across all functional areas.

    • Provide strategic HR guidance to senior leadership and offer proactive support to managers and campus stakeholders across all areas of the College.

    • Align all HR policies, services, and programs with Baruch’s Strategic Plan, with special focus on improving onboarding, professional development, and inclusion.

    • Lead the development and implementation of forward-thinking HR practices that enhance service delivery, improve operational efficiency, and promote a culture of continuous improvement; bring deep experience in business process mapping and redesign to streamline workflows, eliminate inefficiencies, and align HR operations with institutional goals.

    • Ensure the accuracy and consistency of HR communications, reporting, and metrics; lead the strategic use of HR data by overseeing staff who develop reports, dashboards, and analytics, and apply insights to inform decisions and drive continuous improvement.

    • Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and CUNY policies; collaborate with Legal Affairs and CUNY Central offices as appropriate.

    • Partner with institutional leaders to plan for future workforce needs and foster a workplace that embraces equity, respect, growth, and collaboration.

    • Represent the College at CUNY-wide HR forums and inter-campus collaborations; support the President’s cabinet and the College’s governance processes as needed.

    • Mentor and support HR staff in professional growth and leadership development.

    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Operations and Administration.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Law, or a related discipline

    • Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible HR experience, including at least five years in a senior leadership role

    • Proven success in unionized, public-sector, or higher education environments

    • Demonstrated ability to lead large, cross-functional HR teams and drive complex organizational change

    • Advanced knowledge of HRIS platforms, data reporting tools, employment law, and labor relations

    • Expertise in business process mapping, redesign, and implementation of scalable systems that promote operational excellence and efficiency

    • Skilled in using data and metrics to guide strategic planning, assess performance, and inform continuous improvement initiatives

    • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills with a track record of building trust and fostering collaboration

    • Deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to advancing Baruch’s mission of access, excellence, and student success

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    Salary range: $165,000 – $185,000, commensurate with education and experience.
