    Report Times: 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

     

    Daily Hours: 3.5

     

    Work Year: Summer 2025

     

    Supervisor: Credit Recovery Principal

     

    Civil Service Title: Student Behavioral Assistant

    Minimum Requirements:

    (A) Graduation with an Associate’s degree or successful completion of at least sixty (60) credit hours from a college or university; OR,

     

    (B) Two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience involving the supervision, counseling, or instruction of students in a school facility, institution, or agency devoted to the care, education, rehabilitation, or restorative behavior intervention management of adolescents or

     

    children; OR,

     

    (C) Two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience responsible for the protection of people or property in a position such as Police Officer, Security Specialist, or Military Police; OR,

     

    (D) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above.

     

    NOTE: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of acceptable companies who provide this service can be found on the Internet at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm. You must pay the required evaluation fee.

     

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: If you are appointed, you will be required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate your capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.

    Desired Qualifications:

    Experience working with students with disabilities required;

     

    Experience working with students with Autism preferred;

     

    Working knowledge of conflict resolution required;

     

    Must be a proactive team player and problem solver;

     

    Able to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations;

     

    Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills;

     

    Ability to effectively use technology.

    Position Summary/Responsibilities:

    Help students experiencing a behavioral crisis to calm down and return to learning;

     

    Help to act as a bridge between the student and teacher to get the student back on track to learning as quickly as possible;

     

    Develop relationships with students in the 8:1:1s or classified students needing supports;

     

    Support the transition of the student back into the classroom following a crisis;

     

    Provide proactive classroom support;

     

    Implement/model the strategies outlined in the Student Support Plan or BIP;

     

    Implement/Model TCI strategies (LSI, Behavior Support Techniques, Help Me Help Myself) for students and staff;

     

    Help students transition back into learning after having a stressful moment;

     

    Other duties as assigned.
