Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a **Sr. Principal Software Engineer** to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in **Melbourne, Florida.**
The Aeronautics Systems sector Research & Advanced Design (R&AD) is looking to grow Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) in support of designing and implementing technologies critical to the USAF Open Architecture initiatives. Our work influences the investment decisions of our senior leadership and customer program offices as well as impacting the Air Force enterprise of acquisition programs.
The candidate will work with the Chief Architect and Systems Engineering lead to design architecture solutions supporting USAF Open Architecture development. The candidate should have experience in developing software in an agile focused team and be knowledgeable of the software development lifecycle and be able to work independently. The candidate must also have an active Secret clearance, with the ability to obtain Top Secret and SAP clearances. We are looking for innovative thinkers who thrive in a fast-paced environment and are comfortable with multi-tasking, prioritizing tasks, giving verbal presentations, and self-educating without direct supervision. This is a new program; you must be comfortable working in an environment where things are not fully defined. You will often need to make/document assumptions and develop approaches based on those assumptions. The candidate must have a firm understanding of traditional systems engineering concepts and methodologies and must be able to apply and adjust these concepts and methodologies to an accelerated process in the early stages of the engineering design. The candidate must be familiar with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), be able to work within an agile environment, and be an “out of the box” thinker.
Essential Functions:
+ Participate in software development and integration in support of Research and Advanced Design programs
+ Design, develop, and document software for mission planning solutions
+ Collaborate with the Chief Architect and Lead Systems Engineer to build and test tools, services, and protocol bridges
+ Generate and present material to support internal and external customer briefings
Basic Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and **8** years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and **6** years of relevant experience
+ Experience developing software with C/C++/Python/Java/Rust
+ Experience with USAF Open Architecture development
+ Must have an active DoD Secret clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
+ Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Active Top Secret clearance
+ Active SAP
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science
+ Experience with AFSIM simulation and modeling
+ Experience integrating and debugging software on hardware
+ Experience working within an Agile environment
+ Experience with UCI Schema and CAL development
+ Familiarity with software development tools such as Git, CMake, and Eclipse, Visual Studio Code
+ Proficiency working in Linux and commands
+ Preference to work in software/hardware integration and rapid prototyping
+ Ability to collaborate in a team environment
+ Ability to lead an interdisciplinary team
+ Ability to work independently and identify solutions to complex problems
+ Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Salary Range: $118,600.00 - $178,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
