We’re on the search for a Staff Property Accountant to help us manage financial reporting, support property operations, and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Staff Property Accountant, you’ll play a critical role in managing the financial health of assigned properties. Here’s a snapshot of your key responsibilities:
+ Lead month-end close: Prepare and enter journal entries and reconcile key accounts like cash, AR, accrued liabilities, and fixed assets.
+ Manage invoices and loan payments: Review and approve invoices while ensuring loan payments reconcile to supporting schedules and the general ledger.
+ Own the financial statements: Prepare monthly Balance Sheets, Profit and Loss Statements, and Cash Flow Statements using MRI accounting software, complete with supporting workpapers for review.
+ Stay on top of cash transactions: Maintain a daily Excel cash schedule, ensuring all cash transactions are recorded accurately
+ Collaborate with property managers: Distribute monthly MRI financial statements and provide lenders with required reporting per loan agreements.
+ Reconcile revenue and leases: Reconcile various revenue categories and review leases for GAAP-compliant revenue recognition.
+ Perform flux analysis: Analyze monthly balance sheet and income statement fluctuations to identify variances and ensure financial integrity.
+ Support audits: Prepare workpapers for quarterly reviews, annual audits, and assist with SOX compliance and internal controls.
Requirements
What You’ll Bring to the Role:
We’re looking for someone with an accounting background who’s eager to contribute and grow with us. Here’s what will help you succeed in the role:
+ Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
+ Experience: 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a public company or with real estate exposure.
+ Knowledge: Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Experience with SOX compliance and internal controls is a bonus.
+ Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is a must. Familiarity with Yardi and/or MRI and real estate accounting is a plus but not required.
