Special Instructions to Applicants
This is an entry level position located at the University of Southern Mississippi’s Hydrographic Science Research Center. The Hydrographic Science Research Center is located at the NASA John C. Stennis Space Center, which is a “federal city” that boasts the world’s largest concentration of marine scientists. The successful candidate will be required to pass a NASA background security check as well as a USM employment background check.
Job Summary
The Marine Science Technician will assist experienced staff, gaining practical experience in date collection, field & laboratory work and equipment maintenance.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
+ Assist with hydrographic and oceanographic instrumentation configuration and field work, as needed
+ Assist with data processing, management and analysis
+ Assist with maintaining a clean/organized work environment (including equipment inventory management, sweeping, emptying trash...etc)
+ Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled in, or completed, a bachelor's degree in a science degree program.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
+ Willingness to work and follow simple instructions
Preferred Qualifications
Some programming experience, a background in simple tool handling and operations would be preferred
