Description
This is an opportunity to create and develop new beverages for Starbucks. Our over-arching purpose within R&D is to ignite innovation and co-create to bring the future of Starbucks to life today. This posting is for a contractor role in beverage R&D, for the creation and optimization of beverages for our cafés and/or alternate business channels across the globe. • Basic Lab Equipment (PH, solids, standard stuff)
• Standard Microsoft Suite
Degree or certifications required:
• Degree in food science or another related field
Years experience?:
• Entry level, no minimum level of experience
Required background ? Skills?
• Knowledge of sensory, experimental design, statistics, and consumer research methodologies
• CoOp or intern in the food industry will be an excellent fit
• Knowledge of food and beverage technology, ingredient functionalities, chemistry, or engineering including processing and manufacturing
• Knowledge of beverage ingredients such as sauces, syrups, dry mixes, dairy, aseptic, toppings.
• Knowledge of development and scale up of food and beverage products
• Knowledge of food quality control, safety and microbiology
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
• Ability to work in a matrixed environment
• Strong problem solving and communication skills, written and verbal

• Food processing or production background (even as an internship)

Key projects:
• Leading project for cost optimization and product development
• Utilize data and insights, create and translate culinary concepts into food and beverage recipes and/or products that can be manufactured to deliver on product and operational requirements.
• Under supervision, apply technical knowledge to manage low complexity manufacturing trials, including writing of trial protocol and summaries
• Under supervision, apply technical knowledge and project learnings to create product specifications
• Apply initial understanding of business metrics and operating models to project plans and utilize knowledge of project strategy and goals to design workplans with guidance.
• Complete assigned projects and adapt to changing priorities with agility
• Apply basic understanding of trends and customer insights to create relevant products that will drive the business forward, with support from others.
• Contribute to decision making by using data and information from multiple sources to formulate recommendations and inform on level of risk, unknowns and options.
• Utilize logic and learnings for basic problem solving, navigate formal and informal channels cross functionally and with vendors to support the resolution of issues with guidance.
• Demonstrate interpersonal skills and build relationships within the functional organization.
• Provide clear written and oral communication to convey ideas, insights and project updates and achieve understanding of technical issues by non-technical partners, with guidance.
• Collaborate, influence, and support within the team and cross-functional peers.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $31.00/hr.
