The Facilities and Fleet Operations Officer is responsible for assisting the Operations Manager overseeing the maintenance ensures that all buildings, equipment, and vehicle regulations, and operate efficiently to support organizational objectives. This position will also assist in the development and implementation of maintenance programs, and coordinate with vendors and service providers.

Essential Functions
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
+ Monitor timeliness, scheduling, and discuss proposals with contractors to ensure work is performed by outside vendors.
+ Adjust schedule to meet with vendors in a way that avoids disrupting training sessions or operational activities.
+ Handle minor building maintenance as needed, assemble light furniture (e.g. chairs, tables), and rearrange furniture as needed.
+ Maintain exterior cleanliness to the parking lots and surrounding areas by picking up litter and debris.
+ Serves as the department’s infrastructure liaison, fleet liaison, and fuel liaison (e.g. order fuel cards, coordinate out-of- town fuel usage).
+ Receive requests for building maintenance; track, enter, and research work order requests.
+ Monitor and track vehicle repairs and trends, coordinate systematic vehicle replacement and update records as necessary.
+ Assist personnel with vehicle issues and transport vehicles safely within the city and to other city’s or vendor locations.
+ Attends meetings related to fleet and facility maintenance (e.g. Vehicle Operations Review Board to provide insight on vehicle operations and accident damage costs).
+ Performs various duties assigned.
Education/Experience
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
Four years’ experience in general office work or at least two years' of experience in the management of criminal records relating to processing VCIN/NCIC transactions at the municipal or state level.
Valid Driver's License.
Additional Information & Requirements
Position may require responding to work 24/7 outside of scheduled hours due to unexpected facility issues to meet the operational needs of the City.
Work schedule:
Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Signing Bonus:
This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus. The signing bonus will be paid in two (2) increments: $2,500 upon completion of 60 days of employment, and $2,500 upon completion of your probationary period and/or recruit academy. To receive the signing bonus, you must be an active employee in good standing.
+ Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.
+ Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.
+ Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.

If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
+ The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
