    The Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) program at the University at Albany is a leader in workforce development, career advancement, and lifelong learning. Designed to serve working professionals, adult learners, and industry partners, PaCE provides flexible, high-quality educational programs that align with emerging workforce needs and support regional economic growth. Through strategic partnerships with businesses, government agencies, and community organizations, PaCE expands access to industry-relevant training, strengthens career pathways, and drives student enrollment in both credit and non-credit programs.

     

    The Executive Director of PaCE will provide strategic leadership to expand UAlbany's professional and continuing education initiatives, ensuring they remain responsive to workforce demands and accessible to a broad learner base. Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, this role will oversee the development and implementation of innovative, market-driven educational offerings, collaborate with faculty, industry leaders, and policymakers to create programs that attract and retain adult learners, professionals, and lifelong learners.

     

    Key responsibilities include increasing student enrollment, strengthening employer partnerships, and ensuring financial sustainability through data-driven program development. The Executive Director will also lead efforts to enhance operational efficiency, expand student support services, and scale career-focused learning opportunities, positioning UAlbany as a premier destination for professional and continuing education.

    Essential Functions:

    + Develop and implement a strategic plan to expand PaCE programs, increase adult learner enrollment and strengthen industry partnerships.

    + Build and maintain partnerships with businesses, government agencies, and community organizations to create customized training programs and formalize agreements.

    + Collaborate with university leadership and faculty to develop microcredentials, certifications, and executive education programs that align with workforce needs.

    + Drive student enrollment growth through targeted marketing, outreach, and recruitment strategies for adult learners and professionals.

    + Oversee financial planning and revenue generation, ensuring long-term sustainability through budget management and funding models.

    + Enhance student support services, including the creation of a new Academic and Career Support Center for advising and career planning.

    + Provide leadership, oversight and direction to direct reports to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the University's goals and strategies. Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication. Complete performance management feedback and goals timely and per requirements.

    + Other reasonable duties as assigned

    + Reports to Provost Carol Kim

    + Supervises the following positions: Administrative Manager

    Job Requirements:

    + Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

    + Ability to effectively communicate over the phone, in virtual meetings, and in-person.

    Working Environment:

    + Typical office environment

    + May be requested to travel 10-15% to support recruitment and program activities and enhance community engagement.

    Job Requirements:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Master's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field.

    + Five or more years of experience in higher education, workforce development, or corporate training, overseeing programs, budgets, and staff.

    + Proven success in developing partnerships with businesses, government agencies, or community organizations to expand workforce training and/or education initiatives.

    + Proven ability to navigate institutional governance and approval processes to successfully design, launch, and scale new programs.

    + Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.

    + Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging, relative to their role.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Ph.D. from an accredited institution in a relevant field.

    + Eight or more years of experience in higher education, workforce development, or corporate training, overseeing programs, budgets, and staff.

    + Experience designing and implementing microcredentials, certifications, and stackable credentials aligned with workforce demands.

    + Proven ability to structure and manage innovative revenue-sharing frameworks to support program sustainability.

    + Experience leveraging digital learning technologies to expand online, hybrid, asynchronous, and modular learning.

    Additional Information:

    Professional Rank and Salary Range: Director, SL6; $150,000-160,000
