    Job Description

    POSITION OVERVIEW – Basic Functions & Responsibility

     

    The Reliability Engineer is part of a cross functional team of reliability engineers at the Wilson, NC site and is responsible for improving the reliability of high-speed packaging equipment for the site. The Reliability Engineer proactively identifies chronic equipment issues and implements optimization projects through the application of existing or new Reliability tools and processes. This is accomplished utilizing data analysis, as well as close collaboration with other teams at the site in order to achieve reliability performance targets. The Reliability Engineer is considered a subject matter expert for packaging equipment within their respective area of coverage.

    PRIMARY ACTIVITIES

    LINE PERFORMANCE

    + Perform root cause failure analysis on chronic packaging equipment failures and develop strategies to prevent recurrence and optimize reliability of the packaging systems throughout the asset life cycle

    + Analyzesproduction andwork order history on high-speed production equipment to identify trends with an emphasis on reducing reactive work and increasing operational reliability

    + Applying creative/technical solutions aimed at cost reduction, compliance and safety upgrades, improved yields and quality of products and/or facilities which meet all regulatory requirements

    + Partners with MPS, Process Improvement Engineers and Operators to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

    + Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting as required to support Maintenance and Operations for critical packaging system equipment failures

    + Serve as a technical liaison for capital projects to ensure reliability, maintainability, and operability of installed equipment.

    + Participates in Factory Acceptance Testing for new and modified equipment installations

    + Work with vendors and manufacturers to develop a comprehensive spare parts list for new equipment

    + Enter spare part information into SAP for new and existing equipment

    + Link spare parts to equipment, creates modified or new parts drawing and keeps Bill of Materials current

    + Maintain and analyze equipment data & historical records to help anticipate maintenance needs and trends Analyzes equipment & maintenance performance, perform RCM and RCFA

    + Assure all equipment manuals and drawings are updated and accurate

    + Initiates/engages in problem solving and identify short-term and long-term actions to prevent problem reoccurrence for chronic equipment issues.

    + Evaluates and serves as the point-of-contact for all new equipment and/or modifications to existing processes or equipment.

    + Manages planning and execution of shutdown activities for reliability-based equipment projects

    + Attends departmental and team meetings focused on equipment/process improvement

    + Provides information updates for equipment line changes/modifications to others

    + Participates in Tier Meetings

    COMPLIANCE

    + Uses Root Cause Analysis tools to identify true root cause for quality and safety events.

    + Provide equipment SME technical support for equipment related deviation investigations

    + Applies creative/technical solutions aimed at improved compliance and safety for production equipment

    + Participates in internal and external audits and inspections

    + Identifies quality-related trends and facilitates implementation of corrective actions

    + Perform updates to maintenance related SOPS, and serve as a system SME to provide guidance to operations SOP updates as required

    + Develops and updates preventative maintenance and Calibration records for new and existing equipment

    + Creates/Revises equipment drawings and schematics

    + Updates packaging line equipment setup sheets

    FINANCIAL

    + Recognizes and investigates opportunities for financial savings

    + Participates in staffing requirement discussions for new lines

    + Identifies and proposes capital requests for equipment improvements

    **EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE** _:_

    Minimum Required Education and Experience

    + B.S. degree in engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years of Maintenance experience; or Associate Degree in technical field and a minimum of 7 years of Maintenance experience; or High School Diploma with a minimum of 10 years of Maintenance experience.

     

    Additional** **Skills** **and Experience

    Requirements:

    + Minimum of four years expertise in packaging, industrial manufacturing, maintenance, industrial engineering and/or reliability engineering

    + Demonstrated proficiency with Reliability analysis tools such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis, Criticality Analysis, Pareto Analysis, and other reliability tools

    + In- depth Knowledge of computerized maintenance management system (i.e., SAP), Maintenance Work Management process, production related standards, project management

    + Ability to locate and/or rank problem assets that will result in lower maintenance costs

    + Analytical and problems solving skills with electrical, automation and/or mechanical equipment and their use within a manufacturing process

    + Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

    + Strong communication, team, and interpersonal skills

    Preferred** **:

    + 5+ years of experience as a Reliability Engineer supporting high-speed production and packaging related equipment, preventive maintenance and calibration control systems.

    + Experience in Deviation Management investigation process, authoring investigations and applying sound Root Cause Analysis solutions

    + Previous involvement in regulatory inspection activities

    + Previous experience with vaccines, biologics, or medical device products

    + Demonstrated knowledge of Operational Excellence/Six Sigma tools and methodology.
