A. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Nurse Reviewer plays a critical role in safeguarding the rights and well-being of persons receiving services throughout the Agency as it relates to medically involved incidents. This position involves meticulously reviewing medical records and investigations into incidents that may infringe upon a person's rights, adhering strictly to OPWDD and Justice Center Incident Management regulations. The Nurse Reviewer ensures that all findings are accurately documented and communicated, contributing to the continuous improvement of agency policies and procedures. Through active participation in Incident Review Sub Committee meetings and collaboration with Sr. Directors of Incident Management and Investigations, this role is pivotal in upholding the highest standards of quality assurance and advocacy.
B. POSITION DUTIES:
1. Conducts medical chart reviews of hospital records and generates reports based on findings. Identifies and documents any issues or concerns with agency policies and procedures or standing practice during the review.
2. Working knowledge of all categories and classifications as defined by the Justice Center PPSNA (Protection of People with Special Needs Act) and OPWDD Part 624 Regulations: Reportable Abuse/Neglect, Reportable Significant, Serious Notable Occurrence, and/or 624/625 situations.
3. Maintains an in-depth understanding of agency policies and procedures, as well as established best practices, to ensure compliance and enhance the quality of medical reviews and reports generated.
4. Attends Incident Review Sub Committee meetings as a standing member.
5. Reviews investigation reports for medical relates cases and provides feedback and recommendations based on the review.
6. Prepares reports of findings and forwards completed reports to the Sr. Director of Incident Management and/or Sr. Director of Investigations.
7. Participates in regular supervision with the Sr. Director of Incident Management
8. Completes agency mandated training as assigned
9. Upholds agency standards in professional conduct and ethics
10. Performs all other duties as assigned.
C. REQUIREMENTS:
1. Minimum Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
2. Minimum 3 years’ experience working within OPWDD or comparable human services programs required.
3. Knowledge of state regulations governing incident reporting (14 NYCCR Part 624 and 625, Article 20 of the Executive Law and Article 11 of the Social Services Law), Protection of Individual in Programs certified by OPWDD (Part 633 regulations), and the Justice Center PPSNA (Protection of People with Created May 2025 Nurse Reviewer Job Description-QA/QI Special Needs Act) is preferred.
4. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
5. Due to the sensitive nature of the position, must be able to maintain the strictest of confidentiality.
6. Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills.
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
8. Must have flexible hours and ability to work remotely.
9. Performs all job responsibilities in full compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Adheres to the agency’s corporate compliance program, including the code of business conduct, the NYS and federal false claims acts, whistleblower protections and mandatory reporting. Completes corporate compliance training at least annually. Fully cooperates in all corporate compliance investigations and reviews.
