Position: Operations Supervisor-Conversion
Department: Operations
Reports To: Director of Operations/Operations Manager
FLSA Status: FT/Hourly/Non-exempt
Summary
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of the Conversion staff in support of efficient operations at the Wilmington Convention Center. Performs duties associated with the set-up and break-down of events, as well as general housekeeping and other operational requirements of the facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conversion
+ Supervise the work of Conversion staff, comprised of part-time, and temporary employees.
+ Plan and assist in the scheduling of Conversion staff members based upon event requirements.
+ Identify event operations needs and plan the daily activities of the staff, alerting the Operations Manager of any safety or procedural concerns.
+ Conduct the pre-event preparation meeting with Conversion staff.
+ Conduct a final inspection of work performed in the set-up and break-down for each event. Complete standard process checklists to ensure that work is performed accurately and in a timely fashion.
+ Provide feedback to Operations Manager on the work performance of the Conversion staff.
+ As a working supervisor, perform all essential job duties of the Conversion staff as needed.
+ Maintain an adequate inventory of event operations supplies and equipment.
Other
+ Assist the Housekeeping Department in leading and directing the staff in the absence of the Housekeeping Supervisor. Perform the work of Housekeeping staff as needed.
+ Maintain the furniture and equipment area in an orderly and clean fashion.
+ Move and/or store office furniture as needed.
+ Ensure compliance with all life safety codes and regulations.
+ Enforce staff dress code and grooming standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities
In this role, the Operations Supervisor leads and directs the Conversion staff. Assists the Operations Manager with the following responsibilities: interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, scheduling, and assigning work; appraising performance; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing issues and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
+ High School diploma or equivalent education.
+ A minimum of one year of related experience in a similar environment.
+ A minimum of six months supervisory experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities
+ Ability to read and interpret floor diagrams.
+ Possess a strong attention to detail.
+ Ability to take initiative to support facility events to ensure their success.
+ Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
+ Ability to lead and direct a diverse staff of employees.
+ Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
+ Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the WCC team, exhibitors, patrons, and others encountered during the course of event operations.
Other Qualifications
+ Available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
+ Possess a Forklift Certification or the ability to obtain certification upon employment.
+ Ability to read and interpret floor diagrams.
Computer Skills
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office products, such as Outlook and Excel.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is moderately exposed to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required of the position. The environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks including climbing, working at various heights and moving about the facility on a regular basis. Daily shifts will endure various degrees walking, standing, turning, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing and pulling, requiring a full range of body movements. This position may require work inside or outside of the building in support of events and building operations.
