WGN-TV is seeking a visionary, collaborative, and strategic News Director of Multiplatform Content to lead Chicago’s most iconic multiplatform news brand across broadcast, streaming, digital, and social media. This role drives our mission to serve and grow diverse audiences with impactful journalism and innovative content experiences—anytime, anywhere.
What You’ll Do
+ Lead the vision for a 24/7, fully integrated multiplatform news and content organization
+ Oversee all aspects of content strategy across Linear, OTT/CTV Streaming, Digital (WGNTV.com, WGN+), and social platforms
+ Develop and implement research-driven strategies to evolve the WGN news brand and multiplatform programming
+ Supervise streaming operations for live news, original content, and breaking coverage
+ Drive innovation in content formats, technology adoption, and platform-specific storytelling
+ Set expectations for editorial quality, visual presentation, performance, and user experience across all platforms
+ Align editorial vision with station-wide initiatives in production, marketing, and community engagement.
+ Partner with Creative Services to execute integrated campaigns across all screens
+ Define platform-specific coverage guidelines for news, weather, sports, investigations, and original content
+ Build and mentor a high-performing multiplatform content team
+ Oversee hiring, contracts, coaching, and performance management
+ Collaborate with Finance and GM on budget preparation and resource alignment by leading the planning, execution, and delivery of News Budgets, Expenses and Capital Strategy
+ Lead newsroom union negotiations and labor strategy
+ Represent WGN-TV in community partnerships, public events, and local media initiatives
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
+ 7+ years of senior newsroom or content leadership experience
+ Proven success leading digital and broadcast teams in a top 25 market
+ Strong editorial judgment, leadership presence, and crisis management skills
+ Expertise with digital content systems, analytics tools, and audience engagement strategy
+ Deep understanding of multiplatform audience behavior, digital publishing, and social media best practices
+ Track record of innovation, brand development, and audience growth across multiple platforms
+ Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
+ Must be located in or willing to relocate to Chicago
+ Must pass a background check
+ Must have unrestricted work authorization in the U.S
+ Must be at least 18 years old
+ Experience managing union teams and negotiating employment contracts
+ Exceptional communication, coaching, and team-building skills
+ Knowledge of Chicago media landscape is a plus

SALARY RANGE: $200,000 - $235,000 Annualized - commensurate with experience and skill level.
