POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Deputy Director of the Department of Public Safety, the Park Ranger Program Supervisor provides comprehensive management of the other full and part time Park Rangers and oversees the operations of the City of Pittsburgh Park Ranger Program. This position is also responsible for visitor management and safety, resource management, educational program development; and performs related duties as assigned.

+ A current, valid Class C Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operator's License is required to be presented and verified prior to appointment to the position and must be maintained throughout employment. Qualifying Requirements :
Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
+ WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show two (2) years of full-time experience supervising and managing staff with some knowledge of working with reports, budgeting and fiscal responsibilities. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
+ EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Bachelor's Degree from a fully accredited institution in F orestry, Conservation Science, Environmental Science, or a related field. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).
+ EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). The Total Qualifying Requirement is six (6) years. ( See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).
CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS

POSITION DUTIES
+ Plans, coordinates and participates in overseeing the comprehensive Park Ranger program including all City parks, trails and recreation facilities; ensures adherence to all appropriate laws, codes, policies and procedures.
+ Plans, coordinates and oversees all the Park Ranger programming, activities, and operations citywide.
+ Manages 14-24 Park Ranger personnel; evaluates their job performance; implements approved disciplinary action as necessary; provides training as required; interviews and recommends new hires; maintains attendance records and work schedules.
+ Works collaboratively with other City departments and outside agencies to coordinate and conduct Park Ranger community engagements and community enrichments.
+ Helps to develop rules, regulations, policies and procedures for the park system and Park Ranger Program.
+ Attends Department, Special Events, council meetings, and other appropriate City meetings.
+ Conducts research to stay current with Park Ranger development, management and City and Public Safety goals and objectives.
+ Assists in creating an annual budget for the Park Rangers; maintains financials, participant activity reports, and weekly reports. Compiles and interprets data for reports on operating achievements and cost effectiveness of the Park Ranger operations.
+ Acts as a liaison with community groups and other City Departments to develop integrated programming. Meets with community groups, work partners, and concerned citizens to receive input on the community needs.
+ Investigates and resolves departmental complaints, city complaints, 311 complaints, and concerns generated by the general public.
+ Plans, coordinates, and oversees comprehensive park ranger educational programs citywide.
+ Engages park visitors/users to promote education, safety, and security of the park/facility and its visitors.
+ Works with Parks & Recreation, Department of Public Works, and other City of Pittsburgh Departments on park issues, regarding safety, permits, and signage.
+ Documents daily park ranger activities and completed reports relating to parks operations, incidents, maintains employee data, timesheets, and reports.
+ Oversees park ranger purchasing.
+ Responds and assists during emergency situations in the park system which includes first aid, medical emergencies, trail issues, park maintenance issues, inclement weather situations, downed trees, fires, motor vehicle accidents, missing persons, fatal injuries etc.
+ Sets operational standards; reviews scheduling, work assignments and progress reports; interprets departmental policies for assigned areas.
+ Conducts initial and ongoing training of Park Rangers; works with other City departments and outside agencies to ensure and coordinate the provision of appropriate training and resources.
+ Assists with annual budget for the Department; monitors expenditures against plan and takes appropriate action as required; recommends purchases; maintains financial and participant activity reports.
+ Meets with civic groups or other concerned citizens to receive input on the Rangers programs receptiveness by the community, and may present program related to the Park Ranger operations to various groups.
+ Drives various types of patrol vehicles and operates telecommunication devices.
+ Performs activities and functions of related personnel as assigned or required and other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
