    Definition

     

    Under direction, is responsible for supervising and participating in the maintenance of recreational and park grounds; performs related duties as required.

     

    Examples of Work

    + Supervises small crew of employees engaged in the maintenance of recreational and park grounds, to include performance evaluations, leave requests, and initiating disciplinary recommendations;

    + Participates in all phases of recreational and park grounds maintenance, to include removing refuse and fallen branches, sweeping sidewalks, painting recreational equipment, cleaning restrooms, filling potholes, raking and mulching leaves, and shoveling ice and snow;

    + Oversees and participates in the operation and maintenance of light trucks or similar vehicles, tractor mowers, skid steers, packer trucks, trenchers, telescoping material handler, backhoe, chainsaws, hand and power mowers, stump removers, snowplows, weed eaters, edgers, and various hand and power tools;

    + Oversees and participates in the installation of various recreational facilities and equipment including waterfront facilities, campgrounds, playgrounds, tennis courts, swimming pools, athletic fields and special event equipment;

    + Reviews routine records and reports including mowing schedules, fuel sheets, time cards and daily work reports;

    + Completes written reports such as daily work reports, accident and injury reports, and pesticide application reports;

    + Schedules, assigns and monitors park maintenance;

    + Determines tools, equipment, supplies and materials needed for park zone;

    + Trains and ensures employees follow proper work and safety procedures, equipment usage and operating procedures;

    + Ensures work performed conforms to OSHA and other safety standards;

    + May participate in the application of pesticides to park grounds;

    + May respond to public inquiries.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Two (2) years of experience performing landscaping or grounds maintenance work.

     

    Possession of a valid driver’s license.

     

    Possession of a valid Commercial Applicator’s License issued by the Ohio Department of Agriculture may be required for some positions.

     

    Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required for some positions.

    The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create aNEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list, and willreplacethe names on the current list. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. Questions regarding this process can be directed to the Test Center at 614-645-7439.

     

    The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 85% covering Supervision, Reading Comprehension, Problem Sensitivity, Parks Maintenance, Safety, Planning and Organizing and Outlook 2016/2019; and Pre-Trip exam weighted 15% covering Equipment Safety Inspection of a Tractor Mower.

     

    Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.

     

    All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
