About This Role:
The IT Infrastructure Services department is inviting applicants for the position of IT Systems Administrator. This position reports to the Director of IT Systems and Cloud Operations as an integral member of the IT Systems and Cloud Operations team. The successful candidate will have the training and skills necessary to install, configure, and maintain both physical and virtual servers that supports services towards Lamar Universities mission. The Systems Administrator will apply technical knowledge in implementing policies for system security, ensuring high availability, and building technological sustainability.
This position will provide system services in support of technical and functional teams as requested and will apply knowledge and experience of current trends and technologies to improve and automate business processes.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
+ Install, upgrade, and administer virtual and physical Windows and Linux servers in both VMWare and enterprise data centers.
+ Apply patches, and updates, and perform backups and restore operations on Windows and Linux servers.
+ Administer and monitor VMware, Azure, and AWS infrastructure, ensuring proactive problem-solving.
+ Provide OS and application troubleshooting support, maintain network file shares and manage NFS shares on Linux.
+ Follow change management procedures, coordinate with vendors, and provide high-quality documentation and reports for management.
Key Competencies: (KSAs – Knowledge Skills and Abilities)
+ Server administration best practices.
+ Understanding of orchestration or automation technologies.
+ Understanding of cloud computing models.
+ Understanding of virtualization technologies. E.g. hypervisors.
+ Understanding of cyber security concepts. E.g. Authentication, Authorization, Encryption.
+ Understanding of basic TCP /IP networking
Physical Requirements: The physical requirements will include prolonged sitting while working at a computer and some heavy lifting due to carrying and moving equipment. Some heavy lifting required.
Job Conditions: Mainly Monday through Friday 8 am – 5 pm but some after-hours and weekend work is required as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
+ Associate degree with equivalent certifications required.
+ Two years of directly related experience.
