    The Tax Accountant I, Personal Property is responsible for business personal property tax compliance which includes new construction developments, general contractor activities, community amenity centers, property management offices, and various residential rental properties within a multi-entity and multi-state organization.

    Responsibilities:

    + Assists with the business personal property tax compliance process which includes preparing and filing annual returns, monitoring the status; reconciling filings with assessor-rendered values and tax invoices, resolving discrepancies, processing and submitting payments, and maintaining documentation for audit support.

    + Sources reportable information (assets, purchase and disposal dates, cost, jurisdiction location) from multiple accounting and data management systems, AMH operation, accounting, and Jurisdiction websites and personnel to ensure records are accurate and reconciled to the Property Tax software.

    + Manages trackers for jurisdiction requirements and contacts, filing, assessment and invoice reconciliations, office inventory counts, annual calendars, and research related to reportable assets.

    Requirements:

    + Associate’s degree in Accounting or a related field required.

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field preferred.

    + Accounting, multi-entity company, or related experience preferred.

    + Experience with Business Personal Property Tax preferred.

    + Working knowledge of Property Tax Management System (PTMS) software preferred.

    + Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel required.

    + Proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Adobe Acrobat or Nitro required.

    + Working knowledge of Yardi Voyager, JD Edwards, and/or CRM Dynamics preferred.

    + Critical thinking and strong analytical skills.

    + Excellent verbal and written communication, planning, analysis, and organizational skills.

    + Strong relationship management and problem-solving skills.

    + Must be able to multi-task.

    + Must be able to use discretion and independent judgement.

    + Must be able to implement process improvement changes.

    + Must be able to work in a team environment.

    + Must be able to pay close attention to details.

    + Must be able to adapt and flex to a changing environment.

     

    In the states of Colorado, California, Washington, and Illinois; the anticipated pay range/scale for this position is $ 25.50 - $ 30.61 . Actual starting base pay within this range will depend on factors including geographic location, education, training, skills, and relevant experience.

     

    Employees also have the opportunity to participate in medical, dental and vision insurance; flexible spending accounts and/or health savings accounts; dependent savings accounts; 401(k) with company matching contributions; employee stock purchase plan; and a tuition reimbursement program. The Company provides 9 paid holidays per year, and, upon hire, new employees will accrue paid time off (PTO) at a rate of 0.0577 hours of PTO per hour worked, up to a maximum of 120 hours per year.
