    Job Description

    The New York County District Attorney's Office (DA-NY) has an immediate opening for a City Laborer in its Operations Division, which is critical to the continuation of business operations. The City Laborer, under close supervision, will perform common unskilled laboring work requiring physical strength.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    - Moving, lifting, and carrying objects and materials of various dimensions and weight by hand or power-driven equipment.

     

    - Loading and unloading objects and materials of various dimensions and weight from/to moving vans, trucks, or loading docks.

     

    - Performing demolition work,

     

    - Regulates the use of facilities in accordance with office rules and regulations.

     

    - Conducting periodic inspections and performing required maintenance on equipment and structures.

     

    - Engaging in general maintenance, clean-up activities, debris removal and disposal.

     

    - Operating a motor vehicle to deliver equipment and materials to various locations within driving distance of the office.

     

    - May occasionally assist skilled craftsmen to complete various projects.

     

    - When assigned, engages in sewage disposal operations.

     

    - Performing other related duties as assigned.

    In addition to the Minimum Qualification Requirements, all candidates must possess the following:

    - Prior laborer and maintenance experience.

    Preferred Requirements/Skills:

    - Must possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

     

    - Ability to lift heavy objects, upwards of 50 lbs.

     

    - Ability to take direction and work well with others.

     

    - Ability to interact with all levels of staff and vendors.

     

    - Ability to work outdoors in all weather.

    - May be required to work rotating schedules, evenings, early mornings, and weekends.

    Additional Information:

    - Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least 1 year in their current unit/bureau/department and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum and additional qualifications of the position.

     

    - Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.

    2. There are certain medical and physical requirements.

    License Requirements

    Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York.
