Your role and responsibilities
IBM Quantum is hiring a Laboratory Engineer to contribute to our efforts in supporting our quantum processors. We are looking for those with experimental skill sets who are proficient in a combination of lab work, programming and data analysis. The main focus will be on performing routine experimental measurements and in setting up new experimental platforms under close direction with research scientists and senior engineers on the team. We are looking for a team player with strong writing and presentation skills, able to create and communicate technical ideas, and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team. The candidate must be able to work successfully with a diverse and dynamic team of both operational and technical personnel, collaborate with team members, work under the direction of senior team members, as well as independently, and take initiative.
This role includes several hands-on technical activities in the quantum labs, including but not limited to:
* Cryostat operation and modifications, including wiring and mechanics
* Assembly of active electronic modules (PCBs + covers) and cans (magnetic shielding)
* DC testing of room temperature modules
* Cryogenic testing using automated scripts defined by lead engineer
* Troubleshooting of test setup
* Evaluation of ESD sensitive components
* Inventory management
* Familiarity with a variety of test equipment, such as vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes and frequency synthesizers.
Required technical and professional expertise
Education at the BS or MS level in quantum computing or related subject areas of physics, electrical engineering or materials science
Preferred technical and professional experience
Education at the BS or MS level in quantum computing or related subject areas of physics, electrical engineering or materials science, and technical experience in areas involved in the job roles.
2 years experience in quantum computing or related subject areas of physics, electrical engineering or materials science;
2 years of experience in superconducting quantum devices (or related quantum devices), microwave engineering and/or quantum characterization and verification;
Programming experience (Python preferred) and experience in interfacing analog microwave test environment with computer test system (digital-to-analog conversion, analog-to-digital conversion, python coding)
