    SUMMARY

    The Project Engineering Manager is responsible for bringing to market new accessories, replacement parts and remanufactured parts to increase the Parts Department sales/profits and enhance vehicle sales. The focus of this role will be managing product development projects, product engineering, product testing, and managing development activities of suppliers.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Manage product development projects (accessories, replacement/performance parts and remanufactured parts) from concept through approval.

    + Meet product feature requirements, cost targets and established engineering approval and availability dates.

    + Coordinate development and testing requirements with SBR Accessory Development. Manage development, testing and engineering activities of supplier.

    + Provide engineering support during the development of all new products; To include design assistance, product specifications, development schedules, test requirements, fit/function evaluation, prototype testing, specification modifications and installation try-outs.

    + Assist Quality Assurance with resolution of product problems that are design related.

    + Hands-on installation and evaluation of products. Develop and distribute detailed product specifications and development schedules including testing and acceptance criteria.

    + Collaboration with SBR Accessory Development and supplier engineering personnel regarding development issues. Work with SBR Engineering to conduct on-vehicle product evaluations utilizing prototype vehicles. As requested by Quality Assurance, assist with resolution of product problems that are design related.

    + Develop and approve new product installation instructions, packaging that protects the product during shipment and handling and labeling. Review and approve product documentation (drawings, certified test reports, initial sample inspection reports) and first article samples.

    + Maintenance of previously approved products (accessories and parts) to determine applicability to each new model year vehicles.

    + Provide key input into the parts and accessory product planning process: Market information, technology changes related to new product development processes, project prioritization from technical perspective, supplier evaluations to determine development capability and to assess suppliers performance.

    + Gather product information from industry and supplier sources; technical evaluation of potential new product opportunities; supplier evaluations; generate sketches or drawings that depict vehicle pre-arrangement requirements.

    + Communicate project status and product plans to various Subaru Management groups (SBR, SOA, SIA, SRD, Parts Department, etc.) and be a product information resource for Product Planning, Service, Customer Dealer Services, SBR, and other departments.

    + Update and maintain Project Status Database so that Parts Department personnel can obtain up-to-date project status information. Respond to requests for information from all Departments (CAD, Service, Field, SBR, Product Management, etc.)

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

    + Hands-on mechanical ability (able to install parts on vehicles).

    + Problem solving, able to diagnose problems with mechanical/electrical products.

    + Computer skills, communication skills.

    + Automotive background (engineer) a plus.

     

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 4-Year College Degree (BA, BS) and 4-6 years' experience. Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree. Product development and project management experience.

    WORK ENVIORNMENT

    + Hybrid Role: Remote work 2 days per week (After 90 Days Onboarding)

    + Travel: 20%

     

    COMPENSATION: The recruiting base salary range for this full-time position is $92,100 - $140,000 / year. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. (Internal Job Grade: M1)
