    Position Summary:

    The Certified Surgical Technologist and the Surgical Technologist assist in the nursing care and preparation of surgical patients in the Outpatient and Main Operating Room. He/she functions as a member of the sterile team in donning gown and gloves, creating and maintaining a sterile field and issuing instruments to surgeons utilizing AORN standards of care.

    Education:

    Current Surgical Technologist Certification or eligible. Surgical Technologist I and II must obtain CST certification within 6 months of hire or transfer to position. Surgical Technologists who were employed before September 1, 2009 may remain employed as a surgical technologist without meeting the certification requirement.

    Training and Experience:

    1. Current BLS certification required through the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.

    2. Successful completion of hospital orientation within 3 months of hire required.
