    MnDOT District 8 has a Transportation Generalist position in Willmar available this summer.

     

    This position will work full-time hours Monday through Thursday and are anticipated to run from mid-May to mid-September.

    Position is available in the following area:

    Traffic Striping Crew

     

    Will work primarily on the installation and maintenance of pavement markings. Crew members must participate in maintenance of centerline truck and follow truck. May be required to work overtime.

     

    _NOTE:_** **_The incumbent will be subject to drug and alcohol testing; an individual not currently in the random pool must pass a pre-placement drug test for evidence of use marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP) and amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetylmorphine (6-AM). The incumbent must also be registered in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse._

     

    _In case of roadway emergencies or weather events the incumbent is required to be immediately accessible to a phone and be able to report to work within one (1) hour of being called._

     

    ** The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Valid Class B Driver’s License and no air brake restriction. Must obtain a Tanker Endorsement prior to hire.

     

    **Exam Part 1:** The level of experience to perform this job at the Transportation Generalist level can be achieved with:

    + **Experience:** One (1) year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, commercial landscaping, operating heavy equipment, or farm experience).

    OR

    + **Education:** Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience.

    + Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Previous MnDOT experience working as a Laborer, Transportation Associate, or Transportation Generalist

    Additional Requirements

    Successful candidate must pass past-employer reference checks and criminal history check

    This position is contingent upon the selected job candidate having a valid Commercial Driver's License, submits to a Federal Department of Transportation Pre-employment drug test (with negative test results), is subject to future random drug and alcohol testing and is registered in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
