This position is remote and will work from a home or DLI office location and will be required to travel throughout the state performing inspections as assigned by the supervisor.
This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and health of workers and end users of elevators, escalators, and related devices in Minnesota by conducting inspections to verify compliance with Minnesota Rules Chapter 1307. It provides technical support and consultation to stakeholders by applying expert knowledge of all types of elevators, escalators, and related devices, along with the proper application of uniform codes and standards.
Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Current Journeyworker Elevator Constructor OR Master Elevator Constructor license issued by the State of Minnesota.
+ Proof of successful completion of the National Elevator Industry Education Program (NEIEP) mechanics examination OR equivalent program.
+ Experience as an elevator adjuster or mechanic performing installations, maintenance or repair on elevators and escalators.
+ Certified by an accredited organization as a qualified elevator inspector (QEI) within 18 months of hire date.
+ Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, manufacturer’s instructions and other technical information related to elevator installations.
+ Strong oral and written communication skills.
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a broad base of clientele and DLI personnel.
+ Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, who do not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Current QEI certification.
+ Experience as an elevator inspector.
+ Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL).
+ General knowledge of all phases of building construction and the requirements of applicable building codes and related statutes and rules.
+ Experience managing construction projects or business activities involving multiple employees or contractors.
