About the Job:
Optimizes the health, safety and general well being of all student athletes participating in school system sanctioned athletics, during practice and contest times. Records status of athletes to respective coaches and physicians.
What You Will Do:
Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values.
2. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety, medical information. Complies with regulatory agency (NATA, JCAHO, Health Professionals Bureau, etc.) standards and regulations.
3. Clinical Treatment:
a. Coordinates training room activities during treatment periods.
b. Administers treatments to injured or ill athletes in consultation with the team physician.
c. Responsible for the rehabilitation program and supervises the training program for the injured athlete for the purpose of returning to athletic competition.
d. Determines in consultation with the team physician, if an athlete is physically able to return to competition.
e. Recognizes and manages minor injuries or illnesses during athletic practices and competition by
administering first-aid treatments as required by the situation.
f. In cases of major injury or illnesses, refers to the team physician or emergency medical service for immediate attention and makes appropriate appointments and referrals.
g. Applies protective and injury preventative devices such as tape, bandaging and bracing.
h. Keeps coaches informed of the status of the injured or ill athlete, as well as the compliance of the athlete in the rehabilitation process.
i. Coordinates athletic training and supplies for teams traveling without direct athletic training support.
j. Provides contest coverage for home events in all sports including IHSAA events (as is practical and deemed as priority and so assigned). Provides coverage for all varsity football and basketball contests, home and away when no home events conflict with schedule.
k. Works with athletic director to ensure the school’s capability for handling emergencies and medical care for ill or injured athletes.
l. Participates in team pre-participation physical examination sessions.
m. Maintains an inventory and makes recommendations for athletic training services, including ordering supplies and replacing /repairing defective equipment used in trainers room as may be appropriate form time to time.
n. Coordinates the use of proper protective equipment, injury prevention techniques and conditioning methods with team coaches.
4. Maintains records related to injury/illness occurrences and the rehabilitative course of the injured athlete.
5. Participates as requested in orientation of other staff.
6. Makes appropriate recommendations and referrals for additional services. Consults with other professionals and/or appropriately seeks assistance from co-workers as needed.
7. Engages patient using interpersonal dynamics to facilitate and effect therapeutic changes. Implements and participates in injury and illness prevention procedures and education for student athletes.
8. Provides supervision and training to student athletic trainers. Participates in student program, as appropriate, and based on level of experience and expertise.
9. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
What We Are Looking For:
Education:
Requires professional education culminating in a Bachelor of Science Degree with an emphasis in Sports Medicine/Athletic training from an accredited academic program.
**Licensure:** Must be certified in the State of Indiana as an Athletic Trainer.
**Experience:** Previous experience in a sport rotation preferred, will accept a new graduate from an accredited college.
Other Job Requirements:
Must be able to adjust of varying treatment loads and schedules.
Requires flexible work schedule including weekends.
Considerable initiative, judgment and problem solving required.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written are required.
Assigned hours within your shift, starting time, or days of work are subject to change based on departmental and/or
organizational needs.
