The Material Buyer is responsible for effectively assisting the Sr. Material Buyer with order follow up, sending out open order reports, and placing purchase orders for raw material and purchased standards used for manufacturing complex machined and assembled parts. He/she is responsible for making sure that material for new and repeat production orders are available according to production needs. Although under the supervision of the Sr. Material Buyer, he/she works independently with minimal technical instruction.
Requirements Essential Functions
1. Accurately and efficiently issue purchase orders for raw material and purchased standards in accordance with specifications and prices defined in MRP II (Proman).
2. Effectively uses MRP II (Proman) purchasing reports to monitor stock on hand, PO to start, and shortage reports.
3. Efficiently reconciles variance reports by comparing standard accounting values to the amount invoiced and resolves issues by directly communicating with suppliers.
4. Timely schedules and reorders office supplies as needed.
5. Assist the Sr. Material Buyer with quote preparation by researching best pricing and ideal supplier placement.
6. Routinely monitors the weekly purchasing tickler report, accurately evaluates the data, and takes effective action to supply the manufacturing value stream while minimizing inventory turns.
7. Effectively assists the Sr. Buyer maintaining accurate pricing records in the MRP system and external databases.
8. Quickly provides accurate order status to production control when requested, and work with suppliers to improve lead times when necessary.
9. Must quickly follow up on late orders to ensure that the best recovery plans are developed to support production and customer requirements.
10. Must effectively work closely with manufacturing and production control in a cooperative, diverse, team environment.
11. Ensures that cost controls are in place to obtain “best pricing”.
12. Maintains accurate purchase order coverage and close discrepant purchase orders that arise during the buy-in process.
13. Must regularly maintain good attendance per policy each attendance year.
14. Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. 1 year experience in a manufacturing environment.
2. H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent.
3. Demonstrate proficiency using Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
4. Must speak, read, and write English proficiently enough to effectively fulfill this job’s essential functions, and communicate effectively with English-speaking coworkers, supervisors/managers, vendors, and customers.
Desirable Qualifications
1. Knowledge of aerospace product drawings and specifications.
2. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing including: TAKT Time, Cycle Time, Pull Production, Kanbans and Visual Controls.
3. 1-2 years purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
