About the role Leviton is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to work with our Commercial & Industrial Business Unit engineering team, bringing our next-generation products from concept to reality. The Mechanical Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, prototype, test and refine mechanical components. Responsibilities Innovate & Analyze: Design and evaluate mechanical and electromechanical products using principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science. Test & Validate: Develop and execute feasibility studies and testing protocols to confirm product performance and reliability. Design for Impact: Translate customer needs into cutting-edge product designs by researching materials, manufacturing methods, and user feedback. Optimize Production: Create and refine manufacturing processes and equipment to enhance efficiency, quality, and scalability. Ensure Quality: Lead testing and validation efforts to uphold product integrity from fabrication to final installation. Drive Insights: Compile and analyze technical data for design improvements and strategic decisions. Support & Collaborate: Provide guidance to cross-functional teams and respond to engineering inquiries. Uphold Standards: Ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal quality benchmarks. Leverage Technology: Maintain system databases and develop tools to streamline data management and reporting. Lead & Support: Train and support technicians to ensure successful project execution and knowledge transfer. Team Contributor: Collaborate across departments to drive innovation and deliver exceptional engineering solutions. Qualifications Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes (injection molding, die casting, etc.). Proficiency with drafting terminology and symbols Innovative; thinks creatively to design and develop mechanical components, systems, and equipment Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and collaboration abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required. Minimum of 2 years’ prior experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer role, preferably in consumer electronics or similar industries. Experience with mechanical design concepts and the manufacturing of consumer products, utilizing high volume automated manufacturing processes as well as manual assembly. Experience with design, prototyping, and evaluation of material selection. Proficiency with 3D CAD software and drafting is required. Solid Works experience preferred. Experience with PC Board and electronics packaging. Experience with regulatory compliance and validation testing methods.
