The Role
As a Funeral Director & Community Engagement Advisor, you will serve a dual purpose: providing exceptional funeral care to families and acting as a liaison between Edwards Memorial Funeral Home and the greater Federal Way community. You’ll guide families through funeral arrangements with compassion and precision while also fostering lasting relationships with local organizations, healthcare providers, and referral sources. This is a highly visible, community-focused position that blends hands-on funeral service responsibilities with business development and outreach.
Key Responsibilities
Client Care & Funeral Services
+ Guide families through the arrangement process, presenting all available service and merchandise options with empathy and professionalism.
+ Manage all phases of funeral service, from the first call to final disposition, including transfers, decedent preparation (as licensed), documentation, and service coordination.
+ Lead and participate in funeral and memorial services, ensuring every detail aligns with the family’s wishes and Farley’s high standards.
+ Maintain accurate client files and documentation in compliance with all legal, regulatory, and company policies.
+ Collect funds, review contracts, and utilize digital tools (e.g., Matthews/Aurora Advisor) for arrangements and merchandise selection.
Community Outreach & Relationship Building
+ Establish and maintain relationships with local partners (hospices, veteran organizations, clergy, first responders, etc.).
+ Represent Edwards Memorial Funeral Home and Foundation Partners Group at community events, support groups, and educational forums.
+ Deliver presentations to community groups about pre-need planning, funeral services, and grief support.
+ Coordinate with internal teams to develop outreach strategies and promotional materials aligned with company goals.
Program Development & Grief Support
+ Organize and promote remembrance events, grief support workshops, and community engagement initiatives.
+ Serve as an advocate for family resources and bereavement services through collaboration with community health and service organizations.
Team & Operational Support
+ Oversee team members during services, ensuring professionalism and role clarity.
+ Participate in facility maintenance and light operational duties as needed.
+ Support pre-need sales efforts through community education and one-on-one conversations.
Qualifications
+ High school diploma or equivalent required; mortuary science degree preferred
+ Valid Washington Funeral Director License
+ 1+ years of experience in funeral service, customer relations, or community outreach
+ Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust across diverse audiences
+ Public speaking or group presentation experience highly preferred
+ Knowledge of funeral industry best practices and local community health resources
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; CRM experience a plus
+ Organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple responsibilities
+ Ability to stand for long periods and lift/push items up to 150 lbs
+ Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; local travel required
Work Environment
This role includes a mix of office, on-call, and fieldwork in the community. Occasional evenings or weekends are expected for events, services, or outreach efforts.
