    Director of Public Affairs

     

    Job Status: Full-time

     

    Hours: Monday – Friday

     

    We’re seeking a Director of Public Affairs to lead strategic communications and advocacy efforts that amplify our mission and increase access to healthcare and supportive services for underserved and resilient communities.     YOUR ROLE:

    The Director of Public Affairs at NWHS plays a pivotal role in ensuring that our mission, services, and impact are effectively communicated to patients, legislators, media outlets, and the community at large. This role is responsible for conceptualizing, outlining, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive communication plan that aligns with NWHS's mission, strategic objectives, and target audiences.

     

    This role works cross-functionally to ensure consistent, compelling messaging across all internal and external platforms—including email, social media, print materials, the website, media outreach, and public events. As the organization’s communications lead, you’ll help shape public perception, influence policy, and foster community relationships that support our healthcare and social care service.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Strategic Communications & Brand Leadership

     

    + Develop and implement an integrated communications strategy aligned with NWHS’s mission, goals, and audiences.

    + Provide counsel to executive leadership on media strategy, crisis communication, and reputational risk.

    + Ensure consistent, value-driven messaging across all platforms and stakeholders.

     

    Marketing, Media, and Digital Engagement

     

    + Oversee content creation and branding across the web, print, social media, and multimedia platforms.

    + Serve as the primary media contact and spokesperson, building strong relationships with press and partners.

    + Manage digital channels and analytics to drive growth and engagement.

     

    Legislative & Community Engagement

     

    + Represent NWHS with local, state, and federal lawmakers to support policy and funding initiatives.

    + Plan and execute advocacy campaigns, public appearances, and community events that align with NWHS priorities.

     

    Internal Communications & Organizational Support

     

    + Keep staff and stakeholders informed through regular briefings, newsletters, and updates.

    + Collaborate with HR to support recruitment campaigns and deliver branding/orientation training.

    + Track KPIs and report on communications outcomes to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, political science, public administration, or a closely related field is required. Master’s degree in a relevant field listed, or equivalent advanced studies is a plus.

    + At least 5–7 years of progressive experience in public affairs, government relations, communications, public relations, or a related field.

    + Previous experience in healthcare (especially in community health settings), nonprofits, or government agencies is strongly preferred.

    + Demonstrated track record of successful media relations, advocacy campaigns, and managing integrated communications initiatives.

    + Strong understanding of communications strategies, brand positioning, and public/media relations.
