    Summary

    The Manager, Major Gifts is a key contributor to the success of the SHRM Foundation as we begin to execute on an exciting new and comprehensive multi-year strategy. This experienced fundraising professional is responsible for developing and executing strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors—individuals, corporate partners, and organizations aligned with the SHRM Foundation’s vision and priorities.

     

    The Manager, Major Gifts is ideal for a self-driven, strategic fundraiser who excels in managing a robust portfolio without direct reports. The position focuses on growing and leveraging high-value relationships to generate sustained philanthropic revenue and impact. A strong track record in donor lifecycle management—identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship—is essential. Experience in workforce development is preferred but not required.

    Responsibilities

    + Develop and execute comprehensive major gift/moves management strategies aligned with the Foundation’s fundraising goals and strategic priorities.

    + Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of high-capacity individual donors and institutional funders.

    + Design customized engagement and solicitation plans, including meetings, personalized communications, and impact-driven experiences.

    + Write and deliver compelling donor proposals, briefing materials, and stewardship reports that align with donor interests and programmatic impact.

    + Partner with association leadership, Foundation board members, and volunteers to advance donor relationships and identify new opportunities.

    + Organize and support exclusive donor events and cultivation activities that deepen connections and elevate giving.

    + Track key performance metrics and analyze giving patterns to optimize strategy and forecast revenue

    + Collaborate across departments to align messaging, share insights, and ensure integrated donor communications.

    + Stay informed on trends in philanthropy, donor behavior, and best practices in major gifts and high-touch fundraising.

     

    Education & Experience Requirements

    Education:

    + Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, marketing, or a related field; advanced degree or CFRE preferred

    Experience:

    + 5+ years of progressive fundraising experience with a strong focus on major gifts, donor cultivation, and portfolio management

    + Demonstrated success securing five- and six-figure gifts from individuals and institutional donors

    + Experience working within a foundation or membership-based organization preferred

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    + Ability to effectively leverage artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and improve overall work quality.

    + Exceptional relationship-building skills with the ability to engage and influence high-net-worth individuals and decision-makers

    + Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft personalized, mission-driven messaging

    + Strategic and analytical mindset with the ability to manage a donor pipeline and meet or exceed revenue goals

    + Proficiency in donor databases and fundraising tools; experience with Salesforce or Bloomerang preferred

    + Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities

    + Team player with a collaborative spirit and dedication to the SHRM Foundation’s mission

    Certifications

    + Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) certification preferred.

    Physical Requirements

    This position operates in a typical office environment and requires the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical requirements may include:

     

    + Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

    + Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, handling documents, and using office equipment.

    + Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching.

    + Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds as needed.

    + Clear verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with colleagues and stakeholders.

     

    Work Environment

    Hybrid Position (3 Days In-Office, 2 Days Remote):

    + This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with Tuesday through Thursday in office and Monday and Friday remote. Employees must be available during standard business hours, with core hours beginning between 8:00AM – 9:00AM and concluding between 5:00PM – 6:00PM.

    **Travel:** 0 – 10%

    _The hiring range for this position is $108,000 to $125,000 per year. This range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package.
