HKNC is dedicated to working with each person to achieve their desired goals towards independence, employment, and quality of life, based on their talents, preferences and aspirations. We currently have an exciting part time career opportunity available to join the HKNC team as a Job Coach supporting our Summer Youth Vocational Program. The J ob Coach provides support to the students by empowering and training individuals who are deaf-blind to develop skills in order to gain employment that is commensurate with their aspirations and abilities. This program runs from June 2, 2025 through August 8, 2025, Monday-Friday from 8:15am- 3:00pm.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
+ Act as a job coach, assist supervisors/employers with consumer training.
+ Provide information to consumers as to work skills and appropriate work behaviors under the guidance of the Coordinator of Vocational Services.
+ Make job modifications when necessary to allow DeafBlind consumers to perform job successfully. Maintain quality control of consumers work. Work collaboratively with team members to ensure necessary support services during work experience training.
+ Functions as a role model for work behavior.
+ Provide feedback and support to students regarding progress and problem solving on the job. Provide regular opportunities for dialogue with consumer about work progress related to job performance, appropriate dress socialization at the work site and problem solving.
+ Provide training to consumers as well as co-workers, supervisors, in communication strategies on the job.
+ Assist consumers in advocating for themselves.
+ Maintain case notes.

+ Accepts all other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Vocational Services.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
+ Possess or are currently enrolled in college for a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or in the education of individuals who are DeafBlind, blind, deaf or have intellectual disabilities.
+ One year of experience working with individuals who are DeafBlind, blind, deaf or have intellectual disabilities with supported employment or vocational training programs preferred.
+ Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s license.
+ Knowledge of MS Office and Internet required
