The primary purpose of the Research Intern position is to perform basic research functions in the field of prostate cancer bone metastasis (bmPCa), with a strong focus in liquid biopsies and extracellular vesicles (EVs), transcriptomic and proteomic characterization of isolated EVs as well as molecular techniques required for EV functionalization in in vivo bmPCa pre-clinical models.

*LEARNING OBJECTIVES*

Performs cell culture of tumor cell lines as well as handling of patient derived xenograft (PDX)-derived tumor samples.

Performs extracellular vesicle isolation by various methods

Performs RNA and protein extraction for molecular profiling by RNA seq and proteomics

Performs small animal manipulation, treatment and management

Operates flow cytometer as well as other instruments used in EV analysis (e.g. Nanosight)

• Independently performs analysis

• Basic knowledge on software and macro programming (e.g. ImageJ, Matlab)

• Basic knowledge of cancer cell biology

• Optional: knowledge of prostate cancer biology and bone metastasis

Communicates information :

• Must be able to communicate results to and understand instructions from the supervisors and coworkers.

• Clear and accurate communication in English both face-to-face and over the telephone is required.

• A willingness to cooperate with other staff, students, fellows and visitors is essential.

Computer literacy (other than above):

• Needs to be capable of generating electronic versions of data and images for analysis and presentation. Experience in cloud-based image and data management is preferred.

Laboratory Inventory management:

• Must be able to manage inventories and order material for the laboratory in a timely fashion. Must work with department members and collaborators to ensure the consistent flow of information and quality control.
