Research Intern - Cancer Biology (Shalapour Lab)

Dr. Shalapour's Lab will offer several projects that the intern can choose to be involved with according to their specific needs and interests. The primary purpose of the intern position is to provide firsthand practical experience in cancer research and insight into various science career opportunities.
*LEARNING OBJECTIVES*
The applicant will be introduced to microbiology and hepatocellular carcinoma.
Learn the role of diet in inducing dysbiosis and cancer.
Learn bacterial culture and 16S sequencing.
Learn to use RNA hybridization to measure bacteria in tissue (liver and colon).
Learn about in vivo studies.
Learn how mice are used in our work and how to feed mice with different diets.
Learn how to measure weight and food intake.
Learn about immunohistochemistry.
Observe Sirius Red and Red Oil staining to define fibrosis and steatosis in the liver.
Learn the isolation and analysis of immunoglobulin-coated bacteria using FACS.
*ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS*
Applicants must hold a bachelor's or master's degree, obtained within the past year. Applicants must have previous research experience. Training will take place under the supervision of a faculty member or mentor. Appointments must be for a minimum of 30 days and may not exceed 6 months.
