    Overview

    **Job Duties and Responsibilities** :

     

    The MV Line Tech 3/Journeyman Lineman (A- Lineman, Lead MV Line Tech) will be expected to safely perform all associated tasks with the construction and maintenance of all overhead and underground facilities. They must be able to safely trouble shoot and repair all distribution circuits and equipment. Be able to prepare all associated paperwork and be comfortable with embracing new technology in the utility field.

     

    1. Perform construction, maintenance, and repairs on the electrical overhead and underground distribution systems.

    2. Operate, inspect, and maintain aerial devices, digger/derricks, excavation equipment, and other electric line related equipment.

    3. Climb poles with climbing hooks and belt, troubleshoot underground and overhead distribution systems, set transformers and pull underground primary and secondary conductors.

    4. Complete reports, documentation, and mapping information.

    5. Assist Foreman in training lower level MV Line Techs/Apprentice Lineman and perform other related duties as assigned.

    **Experience** – 4yrs **Certifications/Education** – High school diploma or GED are required for this position.

     

    Completion of AVO MV Training and NCSCB MV Splicing certification and/or Line Apprenticeship is required. Journeyman Lineman certification from an accredited Lineman School or Department of Labor is desired but not required with 5+yrs of verifiable field experience within the trade. Class A CDL is preferred.

    Job working conditions and environment:

    This position is physically demanding and often requires working outdoors while exposed to all types of weather conditions and while working in all types of environments. For example, the incumbent may be required to work, depending on the job location and the time of year, in the heat, cold, rain and snow. This position also requires working at extreme heights, in areas that are under construction, or in restricted areas such as a switchgear room, manhole, utility tunnel, crawl space or attic. The incumbent must be able to access work areas that are accessible only by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladders or stairs that are under construction. Additionally, this position requires flexible work hours. In order to get a project completed on time, employees are often required to work overtime, weekends and night shifts. The incumbent must work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.

    Abilities:

    1. Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time.

    2. Relocates a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.

    3. Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.

    4. Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.

    5. Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.

    6. May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.

    7. Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

    8. Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

    9. Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).

    10. See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

    11. Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
